Poor quality cable, cable that is too long, poor connection quality on the plugs.
They can certainly cause overheating of the data transport system.
A motherboard with a cheap usb chip may not be able to cope with the length of the cable, even a good quality cable.
Try different sockets, a different cable, and a different vr headset, because this small usb socket, is not designed, to withstand such a heavy cable.
VR headsets designed to be used with a cable have a powerful plug at this point, secured with an additional mechanism that blocks its movement.
edit:
The solution to the problem may also be to place a fan that blows on the chip that supports USB operation.
Unfortunately not, I didn't decide to buy a VR headset based on a built-in phone.
But if it worked for a while, a few things could have happened.
- You bought a poor quality cable and its connectors have already worn out. Buying a better quality cable will solve the problem.
- A poor quality cable has excessively worn the socket in the vr headset. So now buying even a good quality cable will be a temporary solution.
- Poor cable quality caused irreversible wear and tear of the usb control chip on the motherboard. You can buy a better quality cable, and an external usb controller plugged into the pci-e. (Or maybe a new cable and a fan would be enough)
I rate these solutions as risky, unprofitable or unsustainable.
It seems to me that now it would be better to switch to wifi.
But when buying a router, do it more carefully. Spend more time on this than you would on buying a cable. Search the internet for which router to buy.
Maybe it would be a good idea to buy a headband with a built-in battery. Short cable and its more stable plug attachment. If you've been planning to buy an accessory headband, now is the time.
