I guess i have to wait for a stable update to steamvr before attempting this. It works without issue on my quest 2 though, which is ironic.
Someone suggested hitting the menu button on my left controller in virtual desktop mode to bring up some kind of game launcher - that does nothing.
I guess it's a good thing Assetto Corsa is my most played VR game and it works.
If you enable Quest Link, click on the "Desktop" tile in the toolbar and click the menu button on your left controller - do you see some kind of launcher? People kept telling me that's how to launch Steam games and for me hitting that button doesn't do anything.
Unfortunately, while I can now load everything in the headset, my Touch controllers can't do anything except highlight menu options. I can also bring up the SteamVR options using the menu button on the left controller but I can't even start a game from the main menu because none of the buttons on either controller do anything. I've tried every controller config from the SteamVR options imaginable.
At this point the only viable option suggested is to pay $20 for the Virtual Desktop app. I'll try it but what a horrible experience and a reminder of why VR has such a long way to go. Expensive, janky, unreliable.
I'm writing this with full kindness, so don't try to be offended.
Hardware and software are now being released in beta, so you've become a beta tester.
I don't like it either, but these are the facts, it's not just about vr.
In addition, you have purchased a vr headset whose main use is to play vr games written for android designed to run on a phone pinned to your head.
Connecting to a personal computer is a side use, It is also financially disadvantageous for the company, because it's better for them if you buy phone games in their store.
So if your main use was to be connected to a computer, you should buy a mature VR headset designed for this.
Or at least wait half a year or a year until free beta testers find bugs and some of them are fixed.
If you have such a possibility, maybe the best solution would be to return the vr headset due to the lack of functionality. But this time there was no a big campaign that the Quest 3 is compatible with the Rift S so I don't know if it's possible.
I remember that after the release of quest 2 it looked identical, and a few months ago there were a lot of topics with problems.
In addition, why are you complaining here, after all you bought a vr kit from another company, if you want to change something complain there.
You are complaining about the fact, that free software is not fully compatible, with a VR headset produced by a competing company known for its hostile practices, is not fully functional here after a dozen or so days from the premiere ??
To sum up, I wish you the best.
Install the beta facbook software, install the beta steam vr, and wait for it to start working. Or submit a complaint request to facbook.
I already have a case open with Meta. As for the rest of your post: Meta officially supports PCVR. That's literally what the Quest Link feature - built into the software - is there to do. Sure, if Meta's official position was "Well it may or may not work with Steam/PC", then I would take that into account before buying it but this is an official, supported feature not working properly. Plenty of other people have complained. Many of those seem to have paid $20 for an additional app to take the hassle out of using PCVR which is par for the course for not just Meta but countless other software and hardware companies which release crap that doesn't work or performs poorly and then rely on random people making mods or developing new software to fix their issues for them.
Opting in for the beta's
For Oculus & SteamVR
That fixed my problem. Now i can start up steamVR via the oculus library and from there i can load up games.
If you don't want to do that, wait for the official updates.
I am not sure if opting-in for the oculus beta was necessary or not. I just did that first and that didn't work and then i opted-in for the steamVR.
i just tested a few PCVR games, i could play them all :)
Finally wireless! yay! :)
It was working, now it's not, (intermittent) shows up on monitor, but not in the Q3 headset, was able to get it working when it asked what start mode to start in, steam or oculus, oculus worked also the mic stopped working in multi player games , I can hear them , but they can't hear me, very intermittent, works fine on the Q2
