SteamVR
is steam vr just broken or is it my quest?
hello everyone

i have a quest 2 which runs games from occulus just fine, and previously i was able to play half life alyx and skyrim via steam vr.

however it now seems that whenever i try to load steam vr to access these games, the vr starts lagging like crazy, i get black jagged lines around my field of view and the screen freezes and then follows me when i move my head. i also want to play no mans sky in vr but again run into the same issue.

any ideas what i can do? so far ive updated graphics driver, reinstalled steam vr but no luck.
i am connecting using a usb c cable that cost nearly £90 so im a little disappointed you could say

thanks for any help

Oh no, SteamVR is very, VERY broken. I'm having issues all the time with my Quest3
Its steam VR the patch they just released really broke it, not working for a lot of people.

If you go back to Oculus and the games runs fine, it's probably Steam's fault
1. What PC CPU/GPU Combo are you using?
2. What Streaming mechanism are you using?

3. If you are using Steam Link, can you open the Steam Link debug UI, under SteamVR Settings, under Steam Link, Select "Show Advanced Settings" on the left, then enable the debug UI, and take a screenshot so we can help diagnose what could be going on here.
Not working for myself either, blade&sorcery works fine but i can't seem to play alyx or superhot
Not working for me either. Have to get home today to reply to my trouble shooting thread to get it working. It's done things like crash my GPU, not detect my headset and, even when connected, fail to intialise properly. The beta isn't helping either. lol
If you are experiencing the same issue, please provide the information I requested above.

I am running an i7-9700K / RTX 3090.
Using Steam Link.
Since I last played a week ago, I cannot launch Beat Saber (hangs at a black screen) or The 7th Guest VR (immediate Unreal crash error in Windows). Alyx launches fine.

Two days ago when I was playing Synth Riders I experienced the following, serious lag, freezing, and even having SteamVR crashing. Recent view showed everything upside down and had only one image showing, and no motion response. Image would stay still relative to physical frame. It felt more like a projection of a StreamVR screenshot.

@stuttlepress - this looks like an OpenXR Runtime issue. Can you set SteamVR to be your OpenXR runtime in the SteamVR settings?

@FlangEG - What CPU/GPU and Headset are you using, if wireless, how are you configured for streaming?
Meta Quest 2 with using Wi-Fi on a 5G network. GPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 4090. CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) i7-13700K. Two days ago everything worked fine. No changes before or after failure/bug.

What is OpenXR -> Meta Plugin Compatibility?

@charlsesl: thank you, changing the OpenXR runtime to SteamVR solved my problems.
Meta Quest 2, Ryzen 5 2600X, Gigabyte RTX 3060, 64GB ram connecting to wi-fi 5G here. SteamVR is defaulted and I have been running into the same issue. Will grab a screen of the debug next time it occurs.
