If that doesn't work, verify the files of SteamVR or try to reinstall it entirely
hope this helps :)
I tried all of this + clean reinstall Oculus Software + reinstall Steam + trying beta Steam and Oculus Software. Now i can't play games which require SteamVR, it is really awfull
Thanks for your reply.
I already did all the steps that you suggest, didn't help.
Today I will reinstall the Oculus software.
But I already fear that that will not work either, like for Quertie. Because the thing is neither SteamVR nor the Oculus software was updated in the last few weeks, so it is probably something else. I sort of fear it was Windows Update because that did happen this week
It is really just SteamVR though, it launches and says there are no issues (headset and both controller icons are green), but it neither receives signals nor shows the screen on the headset. But Steam games like Kayak VR Mirage that do not use SteamVR work fine, it's only SteamVR and games that depend on it (which is a lot) :-(
(By the way I am on Windows 10+3060ti+all latest autoupdated drivers&software, although another thing I tried was going back to an older NVidia driver, did not help)
Hello Quertie,
I am the person who started this thread.
I got it working again.
I did that by going to an older version:
Rightclick steamVR|Properties|Betas|linux_v1.14
As soon as I switch (after 10 seconds of downloading), it works, and as soon as I switch back to the release or latest beta, it stops working again.
I do get all kinds of error popups on the desktop, but even as it is generating these errors it is working fine for me.
I could play both The Lab and Half-Life:Alyx.
So I guess in the end it is an issue in SteamVR itself, which is weird cause it has not had updates in a while apparently. I hope Valve fixes it, because I do not know about the downsides of using an old SteamVR version (you can also opt in into a newer version, I have not tried that yet).
(Before I found this solution I actually removed a bunch of files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config and C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR, but that is probably not relevant because working/ not working is purely dependent on selecting the right 'beta'. Also my controllers are black now in VR....)
SteamVR works without problems over the cable. For some reason, SteamVR does not work only with AirLink. Moreover, if you connect to the PC via AirLink, then connect the cable that comes with the PC, then turn on SteamVR, and in this case SteamVR will work, moreover, if you disconnect the PC cable at this moment, then SteamVR will continue to work, as if nothing happened. But after restarting SteamVR, AirLink will stop working again. A very strange problem. Moreover, I seem to have seen reports on different forums yesterday and half a year, and a year ago, so this problem is not new and apparently occurs from time to time for a small number of users
