HTC Vive Trackers (2018) and HTC Vive Trackers 3.0
Hey there,

I have the Steam Index Kit with two Index Base Stations.
I also have three HTC Vive Trackers (2018). Now I have decided to expand on my fullbody tracking and add five HTC Vive Trackers 3.0.

Now there are 2 things I need help with, as online there is conflicting information abou these things.

First of all do you happen to know if the HTC Trackers (2018) and HTC Trackers 3.0 are able to even work together? I have researched online and the only information I have stumbled upon is that HTC Trackers 1.0 and HTC Trackers 3.0 can not work together especially because of the new Base Stations 2.0 which don'tsupport the very old Trackers, however I am unsure because there was also unclear information about the HTC Trackers 1.2.

And second of all I was told that for eight trackers to work (one on the chest, one on the hip, two for the knees, two for the feet and two for the elbows) I require at least one additional Base Station. However I also found a source which states that a total of four Base Stations is required if one is using more than additional 5 Trackers.

Before I buy only one Index Base Station and it isn't working, does anyone happen to know if the HTC Trackers (2018) are compatible with the HTC Trackers 3.0 and how many additional Base Stations I need?
I would really appreaciate some help!

As long as all the trackers work with 2.0 base stations, everything should work together. The only trackers that won't work are the original 1.0 ones, but the 2018 trackers should be the 2.0 version which is compatible with the 2.0 tracking system.

There is no hard requirement on the number of base stations. They are passive devices, you can't run out of laser light unless unless you have so many devices that they are physically blocking the line-of-sight. As long as the trackers can see at least one base station, they will be able to track.

Perfect! Thank you Rectus good to know!

But I would be using 8 Trackers in total. Wouldn't the Base Stations have issues picking up all of the Trackers? If I were to rsise my elbow, chances are high I would be blocking the Tracker on my chest.
What do you think?

Yeah, that's always a possibility. It depends a lot on where your base stations are set up as well. If you are worried, it might be a good idea to get another one.

Thank you I think I'll buy another Base Station!
