[Praydog VR injector] SteamVR overlay makes my game run great, but when I close it..fps frop to 15 or less
It's been months since I bought a Meta Quest 3 headset, mainly due to the Unreal Praydog VR injector hype. However, I've had a lot of headaches dealing with configuration issues.

Today, I discovered something strange: if the Steam VR overlay stays in front of my eyes (VR menu where you can change the video resolution and return to the game option), the game running in the background performs really well. But as soon as I close the overlay, the game's performance drops to less than 15 FPS. I can't figure out why this happens. It feels like Steam VR is treating the game as if it belongs in the background, which completely reuins the performance.

Is anyone having the same issue? Any fix? I completely deleted Oculus Quest App and use just steamVR (OpenXR).
Also, reinstalled Steam VR (beta and then non beta versions) and toggling hardware acceleration ON and OFF.

RTX 4070 12GB
I5 13600KF
32GB RAM
Windows 11

Thanks!

I think I didn’t explain myself clearly, the game runs great when the Steam VR overlay is open, but as soon as I close it, the FPS drops a lot, it doesn't matter if you chose low graphics with 20% resolution or high settings 150% resolution, fps will remain the same, below 15fps. It’s like my system isn’t using all its resources properly.
I’ve seen a bunch of videos of people with the same PC setup as mine playing this game in VR without any FPS issues, so I’m a bit confused.

vr runs fine on a 1660 you do not need a 4080 or 4090 to play VR

close steamvr and disable it and don't use it at all for uevr on your quest. It's not needed. Theres a bug in steamvr introduced after 1.27.05 (which you can always downgrade to) that causes steam to consider the running app in the background and limit its fps like this.
you dont need steamvr. close it, inject using openxr. steamvr shouldnt open at all

I'm not sure about the bug that mark mentioned, but if you're using Quest use either: Quest PC Link, Virtual Desktop, or ALVR. Steamlink is not the best for it

Thank you so much @markmon @LunchAndVR ! I've been struggling with this issue for months. I just performed two tests, and everything is working perfectly now. I was close to giving up on VR because of this, as this injector was the primary reason I purchased a VR headset.
Once again, thanks ❤️

Solution:
I completely stopped using SteamVR. Instead, I downloaded the Meta Quest Link app for PC and used it with the headset (OpenXR). I tried launching the game twice in a row. Previously, with SteamLink, it would sometimes run fine, but most of the time it didn’t. This time, both injections worked perfectly.
good
