Impenetrable Black Screen - Quest 3 Virtual Desktop
So, I have a lot of problems with SteamVR right now. Yesterday, inexplicably, whenever I am on Quest 3 Virtual Desktop and launch Steam VR, it renders absolutely nothing on my headset. Just black. Can't see or access SteamVR menus, nothing.

I tried STEAM'S OWN steam link app on the Quest 3, which works for about 2 minutes before IT CRASHES MY RTX 4070 PC WITH 32 GB RAM ENTIRELY.

Fix this or give me a solution for either problem, the point is, settings are exactly the same they were 2 days ago when it worked properly, and it's annoying to deal with random arcane ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Sometimes things gets corrupted, just how it is.

I'd start with verifying the installation of SteamVR. Update/reinstall graphics driver but if you're on Nvidia and on 40xx or earlier don't update past 566.36 just yet. Then perhaps a repair of all VC runtimes. You can get a simple package for that at TechPowerUp here [www.techpowerup.com]. Hope you get it solved!

I just verified SteamVR files and repaired VCs, still getting black display on Virtual Desktop. I'm about to try Steamlink again. Fingers crossed it doesn't keep assassinating my computer.

Are you using a screen sharing program or similar? Is the desktop view in Virtual Desktop also completely black?

No screen sharing programs, desktop view works by forcing the desktop menu. All content running through SteamVR itself is black.

As for SteamLink to SteamVR- It's been a gamble. More than half the time it still crashes my PC even trying, other times it connects and works perfectly for a few hours UNLESS I MOVE. God forbid I want to move around on my wireless headset.

I recently had to uninstall both SteamVR and the Steam client itself and manually remove registry entries and leftover files and folders to fix an issue I had. You could try that. I think Steam support has an article on how to do that.

It's also possible that the graphics drivers are bad even after a reinstall/update. You could try using DDU and then a fresh install to solve it.

I saw on a Reddit thread that someone had a similar problem and the cause was a second monitor. Although that's from a few years ago so probably not relevant anymore.
So, what I had to do was uninstall every other virtual desktop-like program from my Quest 3 headset specifically. Uninstall Steamlink, Windows remote desktop, and some other thing that would also access my PC monitors. After that, Virtual Desktop worked fines again. Still weird, because I had all these on my Quest 3 for MONTHS and they never caused an issue with Virtual Desktop until recently.

I had so many because I wanted to be able to write while in VR.

Yeah, that is weird. Glad you got it sorted.
