SteamVR

[FIXED] Not detecting my HP Reverb G2, "Welcome, Please plug in your headset"
Been trying to figure out the issue for a while now; SteamVR isn't detecting my headset and I suspect the issue is either my headset wire or my 4070 Ti Super/MB that I upgraded from my 2070 Super that worked just fine. I already tried reinstalling Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 and uninstalling SteamVR's USB devices; most of the easily searched for solutions I've already tried. Appreciate the help!

My headset is being detected by Mixed Reality Portal and my computer in general, just not SteamVR.

Yeah same problem, tried comparability mode for steam and steamVr tried using older 1.15.12 version, tried my spare adapter wire, i even tried steam support and no reply yet i have no clue whats the problem but i know its software related for sure
You haven't forgotten that the microsoft abandoned its WMR and removed the driver from windows ??
(I've never had a WMR, I'm not up to date.)

Make sure you actually have WMR support in Windows still, and that the WMR environment works properly. Microsoft discontinued the entire thing over a year ago and forcibly removed it through updates on most computers months ago.
Yeah i sucks they discontinued the WMR to steamvr driver.

Hardware wise my Reverb G2 was great. The trouble was how buggy the software was. It was always wonky, some games were more about getting the headset to work than playing.

I was hoping they were going to gut the WMR system and just piggy back off of steamVR with that steamVR driver but nope it got nuked so i gave mine away.

If the reverb was good for you, id like to suggest the PSVR2. Its been way more stable, and theres a few features like HDR and hand tracking that may eventually make its way to here. Maybe not, but at least its possible.

It's honestly one of the best PCVR headsets on the market, if not the highest end, with the caveat being the connection method. What's the current situation there? Last I looked it was $!30 for a compatible cable since Both Nvidia and AMD dropped the VR mini DP jack standard like it was nuclear waste. (which was a terrible decision).
I did grab the adapter when they released, but i havent used it. My GPU has the virtual link USB C type so i plug right into that. I havent had any connection issues with that at least.

Now the bluetooth dongle people are using seem to be causing issues. Its basically the cheapo dongles dont have enough bandwidth for whatever reason. Im lucky enough where my z390 built in wifi card has a decent bt4.0 connection.

You lucked out, having the integrated GPU solution is definitely the best.

As for Bluetooth, this is obviously the last thing to cheap out on a dongle for, it needs to support a significantly higher data rate than needed for a mouse and keyboard. Still should be reasonably inexpensive though.

Windows Mixed Reality is no longer on SteamVR, You could however try using "Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR", You just need to be on Windows 10 22H2 or somewhere below 24H2

When suggesting this make sure people understand they will need to install the WMR system, it's only supported, not entirely installed in 22h2 by default. Also, going forward this may not be possible. It depends what Microsoft does.
