The issue for them would be about the value of the item and how clean and undamaged it can stay. It's hard unless you have someone constantly behind near the customers, just like the in-store HTC VIVE demos at gamestops and such.
Yeah, you can add an alarm thing on it, just making sure to attach the wire of it on the wire that are already on the device. But if it's gets damaged or dirty to the point being unpleasant... it's a double edged sword.
