Right controller forcing index finger to bend and get stuck.
This one is an odd one and I don't know if people have witnessed this issue before but I might as well ask. So I've been on my third right controller and for some reason Valve could not figure out why it does what it does. We've worked together removing a lot of software that could cause issues and it still popped up. So basically when I have everything calibrated and whatnot during play my index finger would force bend itself when I have my fingers fully extended and I push in (not to a point of it clicking) the joystick. Sometimes when I'm not even doing it, the finger twitches and then bends and locks itself in that position until I drum my finger to fix it until I repeat the same steps.

Also I just recently found out that even just pressing slightly the power button on it causes it too. The touch pad not so much, not always but it does happen. I even took my hand out of the controller and tested to see if the finger would bend and lo and behold it does it even without my hand in the controller. I have replaced my entire PC, I have replaced my base stations and even upgraded them to 2.0 yet it still happens. Also interesting thing, when I had my controller replaced, it fixed it for awhile until finally it just started recently again. There was some moments where the finger would be twitching a bit earlier in but not as bad now. It's like tracker erosion or something. Left controller never has this issue but man it's annoying doing certain movements in games like VRChat or Pavlov (picking up guns, or having to use the thumbstick button) with the right.

I don't know if anyone has ever had this issue and if there's any solution to it but I might as well see.

Yep that's exactly the issue! For some reason I couldn't find a post about this through the search, I guess I wasn't accurate enough.

I'm pretty sure this is just something that happens to all Index controllers at some point. Note the date that was uploaded. I went and sent it in for replacement and the replacement controller did it too eventually. That was manufactured much later than my day one kit was too. Then just before my warranty expired I had my controllers replaced AGAIN for thumbpad issues and THOSE new controllers are having the issue too.

Back then I looked for it in random people's Index reviews and what not and I kept seeing it in random gameplay videos. It's just the controllers. Some design flaw internally is linking pressure from the joystick (or in general surroundings like the system button in your case) to the pointer finger touch sensors. It's super freaking annoying and I wish I could just disable it somehow.

Has any of the Valve team noted that as well? Because that can cause quite the financial issue to them as well. It's just so annoying and can actually matter after awhile and yes the thumbstick sensor did go out on my other controller right after I replaced the right lol. You'd think for 300 CAD this wouldn't happen, ESPECIALLY within 6 months. At least after 5 years sure but man...makes me kinda bummed out!

Oh Valve's already moved on and don't care because you have to factor in how drunk with obliviousness the average person is. The average person just doesn't care enough to notice these kinds of problems and track down what's the cause of them. Valve is banking on that, successfully. Sucks for us? 😐

Yeah I sent a support ticket to them and they want me to remove all the software like XSOverlay and Advanced Settings, etc.

I know for a fact it doesn't work because this literally happened prior to my old controllers and we ended up coming to a conclusion to getting a replacement and that fixed it...for awhile, like 6 months I think. The finger wasn't bending, twitching, everything was working. Half way through the lifespan it started to slowly happening, I could notice it but not as bad. Now we're here and the issue has happened again but worse. It's happening with my new computer too, same issue! So I know for a fact it's not software if a literal replacement worked for awhile. It sounds more like a hardware issue and I'm tired of it.

Them asking to remove your add-ons is the defacto answer from Valve support. They're probably REQUIRED to say that to all customers regardless of what problem they're facing. You're already dealing with some of the best customer support for the VR industry. Yet it's Valve and they're also not particularly great. Try to get a replacement by the end of the ticket.

Look I get it, but after the fourth time I just want to give them information. I'm tired of going back again and again I just want to know if there's a possible fix instead of having them to waste resources and have to RMA it and then happening again? By that time the warranty will be over. That's why I asked on here instead of just throwing in a ticket to ask what else we could do or another option in this case.

That's what kills me the most, is that okay cool, let's say I still have warranty support (1 year is not enough) and I get my controllers replaced and it fixes the problem. It's at best a temporary solution and will eventually happen again, only next time it probably won't be covered anymore and I'm now stuck with defective finger tracking sensors that go nuts in the most annoying way imaginable. This is why I pretty much gave up on the Index and VR in general for now. I'm hoping we get a true next gen VR headset that completely obsoletes the Index kit so I can just game in peace without worrying about warranties, replacing controllers with ones that have even worse problems (like joysticks not clicking when tilted or thumbpad sensitivity issues etc) and just the whole stress of knowing it's a ticking time bomb waiting to break after every session.
Headset has been fine though, snapped the side but other than that it's solid, I have no issues. It's just the controllers!
So after talking to Steam about it, they started asking me to do other things about the BIOS and whatnot and it almost sounded like moreso my headset which had nothing to do with it. Boggled my mind there. I just closed the ticket because at this point I have little to no time with my work and whatnot. Just frustrated that the first gen controllers did better than the current ones. I never had problems other than the stick making my thumb get stuck in one position unless I flicked it the other way to fix it. Hope they fix their next gen versions. I'll eventually give these controllers to my fiancee as she doesn't care as much as me for something like that lol

It's a hardware defect, 100%. And it's on the controllers themselves. Has nothing to do with the headset, your PC, software etc. I had it where same PC, same OS, same drivers, same headset, same SteamVR etc etc but the only difference was an RMA'd controller, and voila problem is gone. Those support people aren't privvy to this being a known issue even though they should by now, so they run you through circles to try and root you out. Seems they won. If you're in warranty window I would definitely recommend waiting until the last month before it expires and get it replaced. Just show them that video above and say that's the exact issue you're having. That's what I did when I first got my controller replaced for it. But otherwise yeah gonna have to learn to live with it eventually. It's just the way these things go.

I provided a video on it too, my own as it was doing its thing. I just closed the ticket because I have little to no time as I am a streamer and when I'm done I want to relax and get some work done. This is like my third controller for this issue and still problems, it really is dumb.

Happens to my left controller

I know this was posted a long time ago, but has anyone actually found a fix? My controllers are only a week old
