SteamVR crashes PC with bluescreen when changing Hz (Nvidia Geforce)
I have an solution for this problem, im just gonna copy paste what i wrote to the Nvidia Support.

There are problems with SteamVR with the driver that was released on October 1st, 2024.
My Computer (Windows 10) Crashes with a BSOD, Error Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
Cause of error: nvlddmkm.sys, if you want to change the refresh rate (e.g. from 90Hz to 80Hz).
Solution: Delete the driver in the device manager and use an old one (in my case: release date January 5th, 2023) then everything works smoothly again and there are no more crashes.

i hope it helps

open Device-Manager --> open Graphics cards --> locate your GPU --> right-click --> hit Properties --> Driver --> Previous driver. Thats it... your Monitor should turn black for a second and the old drivers should be installed... i think it should work with AMD Cards aswell...

If this will not fix the problem you can install the new drivers again :steamthumbsup:

This didn't work for me (I can't roll it back from there), hopefully they fix it soon!

Hey guys,

this seems to be quite a topic currently.

Discussion also going on over on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/1fv3uyq/comment/lr4a098/

I'll also try rolling back the Nvidia drivers.

Having the issue when trying to switch from 90 Hz to 120 Hz. Getting BSOD with error code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Ok, rolling back the drivers to 960.94 fixed it for me. Thank you!

Let's see how far this takes us. And see if the issue is fixed with the next Nvidia driver iteration.

Echoing problems. Updated my vr pc from win10 to win 11 which caused me to update nvidia drivers now the Valve Index bluescreens with every attempt to go above 90hz. If I'm not mistaken this also resets the index's base station power management settings. With each crash I have to reset it to get them to sleep properly when exiting VR. (By the way Valve, a reason people keep having to buy new base stations is you leave the lasers on by default and bury this setting. Uncool imo. So many people are burning out their base stations early with constant up-time without realizing it. Having them on all the time saves like 10 seconds when starting VR. I lost 2 this way, $300....)

This version is still bugged. Just tested it and I still blue screen when changing the refresh rate. Rolled back to 561.09 on an RTX 4070 Founders Edition and it works like it should.

I got into contact with Nvidia Support and i was told this is a known issue being worked on and that anyone thats having issues should send a detailed report to this google doc. Hopefully if there is enough traction on this issue it will get solved within the next update ;-;
