The Quest 2 is a self contained platform. All it's specific games (that you'll find on the Quest store) are built with those controllers in mind.
However, as you obviously know, you can connect your Quest to a PC and use it to play PC VR games.
Now this is where it gets complicated as VR games come in 2 flavours on the PC platform. Made for VR and VR supported.
Those that are specifically made for VR such as Half Life: Alyx or Job Sim for example, will utilise your Quest controllers and as such you don't need any other controllers.
Vr supported however are desktop games that have VR support. Those usually do not support motion controllers, just head tracking and are played purely from a seated position. Those tend to require the right tool for the job. Star Wars Squadrons and Elite Dangerous are prime examples of this but so are most sim pit racing or flight games as well.
Honestly, you need a HOTAS if you plan to start flying around in VR space fights (speaking from experience). An xbox controller wont cut it nor has enough buttons. That you'd find out the hard way.
But I'm a big proponent of using the right tool for the job.
So if you can afford it, get a HOTAS, Wheel and xbox controller. I use all 3 with my VR games. HOTAS for flying and space based games, wheel for racing / driving and xbox for a few of the VR platformer type games.
Costly but worth it...if you enjoy those game types.
Dog! You are the man! And I thought that Russian guy’s answer was good!
Seriously, thanks for your thoughtful answer. It helps me a lot. I’m just an old man with more money than brains and that’s just what I needed. I can afford good quality equipment to have fun. (Honestly, gaming keeps me out of a lot of other trouble).
Please recommend good quality/value setup for controller, wheel, and HOTAS that will work with Quest 2.
