Is 2k a proper resolution for VR ?
I've never tried neither HTC Vive or Oculus, just wanting to know the opinion of who has already used one

Best tip: Try it for yourself. I think that can be better by the resolution. But that's just like with TV or monitor resolutions with 2k, 4k or 16k and so on. It's getting better. VR is already something cool, not because of the resolution, but the low latency in movement - that's important in my opinion.
Resolution is not that important if the content/game is made for VR.
The problem with 4K is moving it x2 at minimum 60 or 90 frames!

The 1080p screen of DK2 is clearly not enough so I dont think that things will improve that much with the final version either. I think a minimum should be a 4K screen (2160p). But there are also a lot of others flaws in VR like the screen looking blurry around eyes. You can only see a clear image right in the center, if you look around you will see all blurry. Maybe someday we can get individual curved screens for each eye which would fix a lot of actual issues.
I finally managed to try one (the Oculus Rift DK2), the low latency while moving is really good, but during the entire experience I kept seeing black "dots" in the screen, but that should be fixed with a larger resolution screen.
I'd say for now, 2k is "good enough" because otherwise, it's just too difficult to maintain framerate and still have at least somewhat decent graphics. In Generation 2, when we have eye tracking and foveated rendering, 4k or even 8k should work with high framerates with decent (i.e. not totally freaking expensive) hardware. Then, I believe it's more about getting that pixel density than having the processing power.
specs show the CV1 at 2160 x 1200 (the split that in half for each eye). That's only like a 20% bump in res. I was hoping for more myself since the pixels are so noticable on the DK2.
For power requirement reasons they couldn't go any higher, especially since each screen needs a 90 hz refersh rate. Those who have tried the CV1 though say the screen door effect is completely gone.
