High CPU usage - HOT CPU
High CPU usage

Quest 3
No problem with Oculus link app.

7800x3d
32gb ram
4080super

CPU TEMP:
OCULUS LINK: 57-61C while playing
STEAM LINK: 72-85C while playing

GPU TEMP is around 65-70 with both link systems.

EDIT:
Seems to be version 2.6+ even 2.7 beta.
2.5.5 prev version is just fine :)

Reading all these posts, you get the impression that since version 2.6 steam vr is a software that is described as stable, but realistically it is at the level of a beta version.

Valve, take the criticism, and fix it. This is a kind opinion, do not hide rubbish under the carpet, it will harm you.

Select properties of SteamVR, Beta, select previous.

Now I can play again without a hot CPU. ( Must be the same for you ? )

You get version 2.5.5 instead of 2.6
No matter which version I try, the CPU gets very hot and my fans run at 100%
Quest 3
No problem with Oculus link app.

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
BaseBoard-Produkt B550 AORUS PRO V2
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT

Yeah, Steam Link loads the CPU too much, so I prefer oculus link or vd

Just curious Is it a difference of encoding types? Something like h265 vs h264?

85 degrees Celcius is no issue for your CPU or GPU. They are made to work on this Temperature but may eventually Thermally Throttle your CPU. Usually around 95 degrees.
I have now noticed that Steamvr runs much more smoothly when the Steam Link Debug Graph is turned on! The temperature and the fans are also much quieter. Can someone check this?

ye mate have the same problem but with 5900x
50-60C idle
but with steam vr temps spikes to 78C+

And? No temperature to worry about.

I found out how to resolve this problem at least for myself
Enter the setting menu and enable debug menu
It reduced temperature from 82C to 68-70C

I've been struggling with this issue for a while....When stress testing CPU (all cores 100% load) with Furmark running along side it full blast (GPU at 98 % load), CPU is 10-15 degrees cooler than just starting up SteamVR with steamlink. CPU reporting 10 % load, still at 77 degrees...No logic to that whatsoever, makes zero sense, then I see this thread, enable the debug graph and instantly CPU temp drops from 77 degrees to 53 degrees, without any change in CPU load/power.... (I was monitoring CPU telemetry using ryzen master and HWinfo 64)

What the hell is going on...!?

At any rate I just want to thank those here who suggested enabling the debug graph...never would've thought that would help.

Mobo: Asus RGO Strix B550-A
CPU: AMD 5900X
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB kit (3000 MHz)
GPU: RTX 3090

I don't mean to sound rude, but aren't CPUs meant for gaming or strenuous tasks meant to run around that temp? My Ryzen 7 3700x runs at around 75-78 when playing most games, sometimes warmer, sometimes colder. It's what the manufacturer says is the safe range for that kind of load (for my CPU at least), last I checked.

EDIT: Meant to say, they're supposed to run at that temp under heavy load/usage.

The problem isn't that the CPU heats up, that is normal, the problem is, that the CPU, while steamVR is running, runs way hotter than it would under a 100 % all core load scenario, while it's under only as low as 10 % load. See my detailed description and testing of this issue here:

Yes it's totally fine for a CPU to run at high temperatures, most don't even start throttling until they reach 90-95 degrees C. The issue here is the CPU needlessly heating up while it's not really doing much work at all.
