SteamVR stopped working with Quest 1
I have an old Quest 1 that I have used for years with SteamVR without any problems. I dusted it off after a few months of not using it, and suddenly it doesn't work any more.

I can open up Meta Quest Link, and see all the various Steam apps on it. When I click on SteamVR itself, I get the purple mountain scene, but it never actually launches the SteamVR home scene.

If I click on one of my SteamVR games (Alyx) from the Link menu, I get varying levels of bad behavior. If I am very lucky, the game opens, but I get no sound. The audio is cranked in the game setting, and SteamVR's audio settings are set to Headset. I tried setting them to Manual, and specifying the Oculus device directly, but no avail. I can set it to use my main computer speakers as audio, but that is not very emersive.

Most of the time, when I launch the game through Link, it just fails to launch miserably. Sometimes it gives Error 108 (Can't connect to HMD). Other times, it gives error 1000 (Something about not connecting to the Oculus runtime).

I can get Alyx to start up reasonably reliably (though again without audio) if I start Link on the Quest, then take my headset off and open Alyx on the desktop. Annoying, but I guess if I can get the audio working, this would be one way to solve it.

All of this blows. It was so much nicer to just start Link on the headset, choose my game (or go to the SteamVR home), and start killing Combine. Not sure why it is WORSE now than it used to be.

I have fairly recent versions of both Steam VR and Oculus Link:
- SteamVR Version 2.5.5 (1715637367) Built May 13, 2024 at 14:56
- Meta Quest Link App Version 65.0.0.499.343 (65.0.0.499.343)

i cant play for more than 5 minutes without my pc completely siezing and needing to be literally unplugged and rebooted, that is the only escape from the freeze. i have tried basically everything. no amount of reinstalling, driver tinkering, absolutely nothing works. i am unable to use a $1000 vr headset because of steams dogsh1t update.

I had error code 301 and 309 after the update. I've managed to fix it.

Select Tools to be shown on your List on the left side.
Right click on SteamVR. Select Properties... Select Betas. Choose Previous Release!
It solved the problem for me. Hope, it'll help you too.

I keep getting error 108 as well. Did you find a workaround?
