So after finally being able to connect steamvr to my pc after trying to troubleshoot on another discussion (link here to that: https://steamcommunity.com/app/353380/discussions/0/7198511214973498849/?tscn=1708371863) i launch it and on my pc it says "Video Encoder Error Couldn't set up a video encoder. Your GPU may not be supported, or you may need to update your computer's graphics driver." please help I genuinely dont know what to do

It's possible your instance of steamvr is trying to run on an iGPU, if you have one... you can either find out yourself or provide your specs. If you know how to check and adjust BIOS settings, there may be the option on your machine to disable the iGPU, forcing the PC to use the 1050 ti.

Until now I've only ever heard of this error on an intel GPU. My advice is not to buy unpopular or new-to-the-marketplace hardware and expect it to integrate into niche applications like VR. Sell it and buy nvidia for the fewest VR GPU problems. In the meantime, submit proper bug reports to valve and intel.

The minimum recommended GPU for VR is GTX 970, which is 70% faster than 1050ti. I've only ever heard of the 499 error on intel GPUs, and iGPUs running on CPUs on machines that don't have descrete GPUs. You should be able to get it running on a low-intensity title, a very simple game, or a non-game that displays scenery like Google Earth VR and Brink Traveler, museum titles full of artwork and the like.

The store page says GPU requirement is GTX 970 minimum, but OTOH this page says it'll work on a 1050. I would expect that means it'll work only at vive resolutions or lower (1200x1200), and maybe with reprojection, so, bad looking but playable.

If that link isn't clickable, steam replaced the parenthesis around the word tag with unicode, you'll have to fix it.

That's your CPU. You'll need a separate GPU for VR.
