SteamVR Fail (Error 309)
The error tells me "A key component of SteamVR isn't working properly. Please restart SteamVR."

I've looked through all the forms i could find and NONE of them have helped fix the error and allow me to use SteamVR.
- -I've made sure my computer is up to date with windows and AMD Drivers
- -I've checked for integrity of files,
- -I've done as it says and restarted SteamVR
- -I've restarted my computer
- -I've checked task manager as some guides said
- -I've tried fixing the SteamVR installation path as it said to do for the "A key component of SteamVR isn't working." tab in steam support
- -I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled SteamVR
- -I've opted in for Steam VR Beta to try a newer version
None of these things have made any progress on the error.

I'm on windows 11 with an AMD build and haven't had any issues with steam VR till here recently. Does ANYONE have any suggestions or help as I've completely run out of ideas. :steamsad:

Given with how much of an issue this will be its more of a waiting game or a Bye Bye moment for amd players for a good week but im sure they'll look cause alot of other issues are happening and a 309 error like this has happened before and it got fixed in a few days

yeah idk what exactly could be causing the issue as running it on my test bench and a different computer it seems like it has more than just our amd 309 issue so maybe in a few days or at most hours it'll be fixed probably maybe rolling back amd drivers might be good but idk how well or what it will do for the rest of the programs that are already working so who knows

If you all want to play around with drivers in your free time just go looking at old amd drivers till one works just type off what card you have and search for that cards old drivers from amd or look in device manager right click on your card and hit properties and see if it saved a rollback

OK. I am not the only one with this issue.
InternetCrybaby64 Feb 11, 2024 @ 2:54pm
I'm also having the same issue. It's so freaking annoying. I have a full AMD build and updated to version 24.1.1 and Steam VR won't work, kills me.
Renka Feb 11, 2024 @ 10:52pm
AMD user here with drivers 24.1.1
whenever I link my quest 2 to my pc, it works at like 2fps and with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of delay in the movement. There's lots of graphical glitches and steamvr just says "A key component of SteamVR isn't working properly".

I really hope this gets fixed up soon
Micer Feb 12, 2024 @ 9:00am
I am currently experiencing the same issue. Error 309 on startup, rolling AMD drivers back fixes the issue for me but that shouldn't be necessary. Hope this will get fixed soon

SteamVR fails with 309

Completely new system build. All components brand new, OS freshly installed.

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor, 4201 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
Windows 11 Pro - upgraded to enterprise but the same error
I have confirmed the files are in the correct location, Geforce experience confirms I have the latest video drivers installed,
AMD Chipset installer confirms I have the correct drivers installed.

There might be some bugs with the latest SteamVR updates. At this time, we do not have any further troubleshooting steps.

However...

I'm on a quest 3 and I have found that the oculus link works fine, I can play oculus games over the oculus air link so it's not the graphics drivers.

I have got many things to work by pointing stuff to the oculus openXR

MSFlight Sim
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64. json

Virtual desktop
Options
OpenXR Runtime: VDXR

Alyx still fails as that appears to be hardcoded to steamXR, same with skyrim, but blade and sorcery, google earth, aerofly fs4 all seem to be working fine.
I have the same (309) error, Anyone know of a fix yet?
