SteamVR

SteamVR

Computer freezes after Steam VR and it makes a super weird coil whine that sounds almost like a cricket
I'm having an extreme high coil whine sound when I close steam VR that freezes the image of both my screens BUT the computer does not freeze because i was listening to some music on the background and it keep working but the screen was freezed. Any ideas? This started yesterday and after some reebots this still like this, when this happens I just reboot it by button because i dont know whats going on.

PC Specs: 3080 10gb, Ryzen 7600, 32gb RAM DDR5 5200Mhz, Power Source 850W XPG, and the motherboard is an Asus A620-M

I think it's whine from the GPU. I think it's from the refresh rate running away into the stratosphere after a failure of SteamVR, or a third-party steamvr utility, to cleanly shutdown. A lot of people have reported it. Have you installed any third party steamvr utilities?

I am finding that, after I using SteamVR, my Windows Explorer won't run. It jut turns the screen black for a moment and then nothing has happened. I can't even reboot. I have to use the power off button.

It could be probably that, but its weird because i tested the GPU and it works well, prob a thing with the refresh rate as you say. And no, I haven't isntalled anything third party for steam vr

Had somewhat the same problem but I would turn my headset off first accidentally. Computer would freeze then SteamVR would crash after 2 minutes of the PC hanging. Computer made no sounds though.

I would suggest to:
Check to make sure the headset ins't being unplugged.
Stop SteamVR through Steam.

I forgot to mention that it would help to know what headset your using as well.

Sorry for the late reply, guess I was hoping it would sort of fix itself but the issue is still ongoing. I'm using a valve index and everything runs completely fine for hours on end, maybe one or two rare crashes per day. But the problem arises when steamVR crashes, or when it's closed normally, my computer intermittently freezes for minutes at a time, unfreezing for a few moments before freezing again, and has to be powered off to stop it. Without fail, any time steam vr closes, this happens, even when stopped through steam normally.

Audio continues as normal, I was in a discord call when it happened once and kept hearing the other person, but they couldn't hear me so my mic wasn't picking up. Really confused as to why this is happening.

Since it sound like only a gpu problem, I'd boot windows into safe mode, uninstall the old gpu driver, then reboot and install the gpu driver.

i checked the gpu and a cable was connected wrong, once i connected it the three fans were functioning. It seems that it was forcing the cooling system way too much since a fan was connected wrong. I used MSI Afterburner to check if all fans were working accordingly. I've controlled the gpu temp to not go over 85ºC and cleaned the dust out of it
