Got a brand new computer with Valve Index and it dont work,
Hello, its my first time posting here, and sorry if its the wrong place to post, if it is, tell me to delete it,

so i have been saving for a while and i got a brand new computer with valve index,

since i got it every 5min the headset will disconect, first the headset, controllers or base station, leading to a grey screen, when a friend tried it i noticed that on steam vr things start disconecting, with most often the base station, the light on those are always green, it never went any other color like red that i have seen around. i tried everything but no luck so far, i formatted the computer, even thought was brand new, i reposition the base stations, and its keep crashing, and if i close the steam vr, the headset wont reconect again unless i restart the computer, even if i click (reset headset) and occasionally also am getting the usb disconected, have tried all the ports but still happening. alsot eh base stations even i have put the power management to sleep, when i turn off the computer, the buzzing really loudly, which i have to turn them off which i dont know if that has to do anything.

i contacted customer support but as expected its been a week with no reply,

my computer is i9-900, gtx 2080 TI,asus maximus hero xi motherboard and 2x16 ddr4 on 2.4 so i have no clue what is happening, i updated the motherboard bios, and got the drivers for the graphic card.

i know that this is not tecnicall support but am getting a bit desparate, as the whole thing cost me a lot.

Hmh. You've already tried flopping it around USB ports which would otherwise be what I recommend... but uh... only thing I don't see, which Windows version are you on? 7 or 10? If on 7 that could probably be causing some issue... the Index does say the minimum requirement is Windows 10. Or are you running Linux? 😅

If nothing else maybe a system report will tell us more, you can save out one from the SteamVR status window.

It's usually what Valve employees ask for, so it's more of a "in case of" thing to do, if they would happen to drop by. 😬

I have an i9-9900K, RTX 2080 and an Asus ROG Strix Z390-F Gaming motherboard, with almost no issues, so no real experience when it comes to heavy troubles like this 😅 I had the Vive for three years prior to this but that is now old information, mostly.

Maybe the windows event logs can be helpful? Might be a random driver tha4 wreaks havoc on stuff, or things like MSI Afterburner, but you say you reinstalled from zero so feels unlikely.

I'm pretty certain it's not your Index that's the cause so don't stress about that.

There's a 99% chance it's the motherboard...or at least the motherboard drivers. I had similar issues to yours on my Vive back when I first got it due to dodgy maximus drivers.

I'm going to assume you're only using the drivers that came on the install disk with the motherboard? If so you'll need to update ALL motherboard drivers to the newest versions from ASUS.

Assuming you're on the 64-bit version of Win 10, you can find them here.

In all likelyhood the problem is either the wireless, chipset or bluetooth drivers causing this so updating the bios wont help.

In my case updating the Maximus drivers to the newest ones on ASUS's site solved all the issues on Vive and I;ve had no issues since upgrading to the index either.

i dont have a disk drive on the pc as i havent used one for like an eternity, so i didint bother to bought one, i updated the bios drivers from the site, and then the rest from the asus armoury crate app that came with, but will try to check and re update them if something its not accurate. thanks

"asus maximus hero xi motherboard" this motherboard is known to have issues with VR due to the lack of supported usb drivers or simply bad chipsets or native windows 10 support. check for firmware update at asus, check for updated drivers. or in motherboard, disable usb 3.0 and force 2.0 usb.

one example.

get one of these and it might help.

make sure your motherboard has an extra pci-e high speed slot available.
