first time VR massive motion sickness.
so my Rift S Arrived and i am very happy so far.
Beat Saber is fun and i don't have any issues with it.

but as soon as i play a game where i "move "like Gorn i almost fall over and i am getting very dizzy (even an hour later now after i stopped playing.)

is that normal for a newbie?

I only got sick playing Boneworks but after a few plays I got used to it

When I started out with VR I got hugely sick immediately.

The way I got acclimatized was to play a fairly intense game until I felt a tinge of nausea, and then called it a day. Then I kept this up for a few weeks and I gradually was up to 3 hour sessions. This might not work for everyone, but you should definitely not try to power through simulation sickness, it usually only makes things worse 😅

If you're really unlucky you'll create a negative association so even just the smell or feel of the VR headset on you will cause nausea 🤣😭 So it can be quite important to take it easy 😬

Yes. It took me 3 weeks of smooth movement in Dead Effect 2 VR before I could play without the vingette comfort option. That's why the option is there in most games that have smooth movement.

yes, this is normal. it will be easier for you as you play.

Totally normal reaction my dude, there are alot of factors but just take it easy and as suggested above dont push through it, as soon as you feel dizzy or really hot across your face and palms stop. and do not jump back in until you feel completely normal. can take up to 4 hours+

try start with games that you dont need to move around in. stuff like superhot, brookhaven exp or even space pirate trainer. yeah they are lack luster games (maybe not superhot) but you gotta build into it.

Try to power through it and your body will acclimate.

Absolutely not recommended, please don't do this, for many reasons mentioned in the thread 😅

Well it's been 11 hours now ( over night)
I could not even sleep and i am still dizzy)

I tried gorn with thumbstick movement and almost threw up within 15 seconds.

Never thought it would be so hard

Virtual Vertigo. Lol. The minds visual input of movement, but your ears equilibrium (think of a sloshing tube that your brain uses to tell you which way you’re moving even when you cannot see it) isn’t getting that physical motion.
This can create dizziness and/or motion sickness if experienced for too long.

If the prolonged, gradual adjustments (others suggested) aren’t working, you can always try taking some motion sickness medication to alleviate during your first couple times.

Not a permanently/continually for every VR time, but just to help get through the beginning times.

I went back to play HL2 pancake in preparation for Alyx VR, got motion sick straight away, I only play VR games.
Then read about Gmod plus VRMod and now playing HL2 in VR, and all good no motion sickness for me.

If you get sick within seconds, than i would recommend to avoid games with artificial movement for a while. Because you are new to VR play games like Beat Saber, Space Pirat Trainer, RacketNX, SuperHot or similar games first, where you move your own body. Just to get comfortable with VR itself. Then step up to some games with teleport movement.

To get used to smooth locomotion i'd recommend cockpit-based games first. It helps to have a reference point, when your virtual body sits in the cockpit, while the environment moves. It's like driving a car.

You need to grow your so called "VR legs". It's a learning curve to get rid of motion sickness. Don't overdo it first. If you get sick, stop your VR gaming immediately and take a break for a few hours. Definitively don't power through the sickness!

I've been playing for a couple months now, and its still an issue, but you do get better able to handle it. I was doing really good recently decided to get Blade and Sorcery, and as soon as I tried to climb a ladder it came back in full force.

Yep, made me stop for a couple hours before I could return. I still have troubles with The Forest.

So i played for 3 days now and i have to say that the sickness feeling is mostly gone.

The main issue is to not falling when i have artificial movement.

When i move in gorn or pavlov i compensate the movement with falling over.. ( three times now..)
