Bricked Oculus Rift CV 1 USB Sensor after SteamVR firmware update?
So I got this set from a friend last thursday. Everything was working fine on Oculus setup side. Now when I came to Steam VR something went wrong after some firmware updates and now one of the usb sensors doesn't work anymore: Windows won't recognize it and it won't make any sound when plugged in. A dim white light will turn on everytime I plug it in, but nothing else.

I contacted Steam Support but they said they cannot help me with this, and I'm still trying to contact Oculus Support with this. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I still can't figure out why SteamVR would give you firmware updates... when you're using an Oculus device?! 🤔 I've never heard of that happening before 😅

I don't know either. All I can say is the setup took around 5-10 minutes and it clearly said something about updating firmware, do not turn off, etc.

Anyway, any kind of help would be greatly appreciated

I have a CV1 and your problem sounds like a USB connector problem, where do you plug in your sensors?
Motherboards USB ports were never meant to supply what a VR sensor needs, my point is your USB port might have fried, even if you have a dedicated card that doesn't have dedicated 5Gbps channels.
My sensors are plugged into one of those no problem at all with them even with long extension cables

Note the 4 little chips and the oval chromed thingys on the card, those supply power to each USB ports, cheaper cards will have one chip for 2 -3-4 ports which is no better than your motherboard USB ports

I don't think it has anything to do with Steam updating I got the update and nothing went wrong

I don't think that's the issue Kobs, i use one of those I've tried other ports on my PC

Then have you tried deleting Steam all together from your machine and reloading it?
Could be something corrupted
If not there's always the fact that your sensor is simply dead, of course you would need a new one to test that theory,

Yep, i even reinstalled oculus app, still won't detect, it wouldn't be my sensor that is dead, this was a new sensor.

No I didn't. I spent about 2 weeks trying to sort this out with oculus support and at some point they just gave up and told me to get a second hand sensor, since they're out of stock and that's what I did.

I remember the update didn't complete. Before that, everything was working fine and after the update, the sensor was gone. I tried with all the usb ports on my pc and even my roommates pcs... but it wouldn't work (the other sensor did work just fine on every other PC I tested it on)

Yea. I thought maybe it was some cable that just desoldered or something but there's no way to open it up without damaging the whole case so... even if that were the problem the thing would be useless after fixing it.

There are some good offers on ebay rn. Expect the price to be around €50+, though.

I have the same problem with one of my sensors and I am also clueless on how to fix this. Thank you steam for breaking my sensor and not providing a way to reverse the update or another way to fix it, Now I have to get a new sensor.

The problem is... once it fails, it's gone. There's no way to reverse it

Unfortunately you will not get any help from Oculus cause they let us (the CV1 owners) down or should I say they dropped us like a brick even if we were the ones who started the whole thing for them
On the bright side the CV1's have dropped tremendously in local ads you can get a perfectly good working system for a few hundred bucks, ($250) I even saw one with the same problem you have (only one sensor working) for $125 which is good if you can't afford to get a new headset

I got my replacement directly from oculus they only had a few left when i did tho, don't think they'd have any left as this is common now
