Steam VR and use computer at the same time?
Hello,

is it possible to run a VR game and play a non-VR game
on the pc at the same time?

Because my wife loves Beat Saber, but we have just one computer.
I also want to play my games.

The problem is, as soon as i start a game my wife has laggs/delay. (High ms)
Its not the focus loss, because i can use crome, or steam client, or something
and no problems with the lags in Beat Saber.
But if i start a game, the VR-Game is kind of unpayable

Any ideas?

Mate if you want a happy life "Let her play Beat Saber". Its not worth it. Take up fishing or metal detecting or Golf. But for the love of god Never, NEVER go up against a wife when you want to live a little longer.

Can't a quest 2 run games like beat saber on its internal hardware? Seems like that'd be the easiest and cheapest solution.

You could try virtualization if you have the pro version of Windows. I don't know if you'd get better performance with a virtual machine.
You can allocate vCPU cores and RAM to a virtual machine to prevent the other game eating up all the headroom and causing lag.

Another option is a standalone headset, but only the Meta Quest has Beat Saber.

The Quest 2 is a stand alone headset, just buy Beat Saber

you need a better router 5g or 2.5g router will do, you are getting bottle neck lag most likely , also check your steam settings sounds like you are a victim of steam forced share downloading and auto updating lag

Depending on the games you want to play you are asking a lot from any Pc to try and run 2 games (one being VR) at the same time. You have all sorts of issues to contend with. Windows and hardware scheduling, system ram, swap files and Vram allocation. A pc can run two games if the two games together require less resources than the sum of the PC but if you try and run two demanding games then it wont work. Any game in VR is already demanding a lot from any system.

Solution, new computer or as it's been already said an oculus stand alone and get her game on it at 1/4 of the price of the comp.

That's a good idea.

But at this price you can buy vr goggles with a built-in phone like quest 2.
Or if you have a second vr goggles, a used computer that can handle beat saber.
I think it could be even 4590 + 1650 if they are not high-resolution goggles.
