Vive Setup: Waiting for Steam Installer to finish
Was finally able to get through the HTC account registration of the installer. Now it stops, showing the following screen: http://i.imgur.com/iNXOibZ.png

I already have Steam and SteamVR installed. So, what's the problem? (I already tried to start SteamVR manually, but nothing happens when I do so). I have a Rift additonally, but there isn't any option to select the active HMD or something....

Does anyone have the same problem?

Something went wrong while installing Steam

I user Steam Beta, I got through this part of the setup before my Vive arrived and now this doesn't work. I have restarted a few times.

I was having this problem until I installed the Vive software on the same drive as my steam install. That seemed to fix it or maybe it just took a few tries.

I also had trouble getting the headset to turn on until I unplugged the usb and hdmi and plugged them back in a few times. I then hit the button on the left side of the headset and it turned on.

Good luck!

Good luck!

It didn't help in my case.

Ok, the problem was when I was logged to Windows as a standard user and then during install provided administrator password. So I logged out, then logged in as administrator user and then installed it without problems.

I have the same problem, I have them both on the same drive (C).

I had it as well, problem was the setup was trying to start Steam but as I normally run it as Administrator (ticked under compatability mode) it kept failing.

I unchecked Run as Administrator and the setup went through without issue.

Having the very same problem. Have re-booted several times, and tried with Steam already running in the background vs. not - always the same result. I'm probably up to half a dozen or more tries now. I've already got Steam (fully updated), latest Nvidia drivers, SteamVR already installed. Running on Win 10 under an admin account (or at least it was an admin account prior to the Win 10 upgrade ... god knows what they did to it). Also tried launching the Vive setup by right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator." No dice. Also changed the Vive install directory to be the same drive as my Steam install. Nope.

Are devs still tracking this thread? VERY frustrating to not be able to set up my new $800 piece of hardware.

I installed VIVE Home first after receiving my HTC VIVE. I always had Steam so that was already running. And I had SteamVR installed before I actually got my VIVE. And they are all on the same drive. I just did the firmware updates for them all today and everythingt works as expected. Most times people are the problem but not saying you all are. I followed the tutorials to set everything up and that was enough to get me up and running. Did you try starting up VIVE home and seeing if you can access your headset that way? Also, I linked my VIVE account with Steam. I never had to change admin settings when I set mine up.

I solved it by running the windows run command (windows button R) and putting in steam://flushconfig
This will reset your steam (you will not lose any saves) then I restart the computer. Then I open steam again and try to open VR and now it works. If i try to run the Vivesetup though it breaks everything and I have to do these steps again

getting the same error. extremely disappointing.

I'm stuck at this point too.
I have tried:
- Running the installer as adminsitrator,
- Putting the Vive files on the same drive as Steam
- Running while Steam is open and closed
- Rebooting
