but not on my Asus ROG G751 Laptop(with GTX 980m)...
Tried a miniDP to HDMI adapter, got it to detect the display, light turns green but the screen stays off. Trying to track down a miniDP to miniDP cable right now to try that instead.
I tried thunderbolt to thunderbolt, same 208 error...
I really don't know what to do....
Is there a way to contact SteamVR support?
The current generation of Optimus laptops do not play nice with the Vive or the Rift. Most of them have the external ports redirected through the iGPU that can't handle the required 90hz at the required resolution. A few models have their DP port properly routed and users have reported that it works. But the general rule is that VR doesn't work with laptops with mobile GPUs.
The Asus G751 JY is not an Optimus laptop.
And it works with Oculus Rift DK2 and passed SteamVR test as VR compatible (almost ready)
Did Windows detect the Vive as a monitor when using miniDP to HDMI?
Did you try to force the 2160 x 1200 90Hz resolution on the Vive's monitor in the Nvidia control Panel?
I used a Logiix Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter and IT WORKS!!!!
1. mini DP to mini DP on breakout box
2. hdmi to hdmi on breakout box
3. mini DP through adapter to HDMI on breakout box
Both 1 and 2 gave no HMD detected. For 3, the light turns green and SteamVR recognizes it, but display won't turn on. Going to try the other suggested adapter next.
Fortunately my desktop works fine, but I was hoping to have a mobile solution as well.
