Can't set up room
Every time I try to run Room Setup I get the error "Could not start openvr.tool.steamvr_room_setup. Error was VRApplicationError_UnknownApplication."

Anyone else have this problem or a possible solution? So... close... to VR! It's making me crazy! Thanks!

I got this error when my monitor was not connected to my PC while running the Room Setup, because I tried to connect only the Vive via HDMI without monitor.

Ok so here's what I remember about fixing it. I know I went to Steam VR properties and then Local Files and clicked Verify Integrity of Local Files. Or maybe verify integrity of tool cache. Something like that. Then I shut down Steam and rebooted the computer and it worked! It may have failed one last time before working though, I can't remember for certain.

I've read somewhere else that switching to the beta version of Steam VR solved the problem so you may try that as well. Once I got it installed it's worked like a dream!

Goodluck y'all!

Same issue here. We really shouldn't be encountering errors like this while following the setup guide...

I had the same problem until I updated the firmware for my controllers. You'll need to plug them in with the USB cable to do it. It restarted the Steam VR software as well, so it could have been a coincidence, but definitely give it a try.

Try rebooting your computer. Seems silly but it worked for me. I'm goint to take #7s advice and update my controller firmware.

Reboot will sometimes fix it, only to have it crop up again. Something definitely screwy here, I don't think there's a universal fix; just that it sometimes works, usually after reboot, and if you did your room setup right (which I didn't, I don't think), you don't have to do it again.

Yes I ran setup once and now it will not run with that error, for some reason my room is above the game area and I cannot reach down to pick stuff up, seems to have got confused where the floor is supposed to be!
One of my controllers will not pair up unless its plugged into a USB all the time (another lead!)

Found solution shortcut going to wrong location, look in c: drive/prog files 86/steam/steam apps/common/steamvr/tools (doubleclick) room setup 32bit or 64!

program files 86 not the normal prog files, two folders on your c: drive, are you in admin mode? if not they may be invisible!
