I can't get one of my Vive controllers to pair/detect!
Hey, I'm scrambling across the entire internet and posting everywhere I can since I really need to fix this, so here's a copy-paste from Reddit:

"Hey Reddit! So I've had my Vive for two days now and after a bunch of troubleshooting with these darn controllers, nothing has worked. Here's what's happening:

In order to get one of my controllers working, I have to go through the first process listed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4dnvzc/psa_things_to_try_if_youre_having_controller/

Once I do that and unplug it from my computer, it's green and good to go.

Now, my other controller lights up and works in VR once I plug it into my computer, but the moment I unplug it, it switches to blue for a solid 30 seconds before turning off.

What do, Reddit, what do? I've tried all of the solutions that I linked above, I've tried reinstalling everything, and I fully charged both controllers. Nothing's working and I'd love to finally play some games besides TheBlu :(

If anyone needs more information, feel free to ask.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to include the most obvious option. I definitely tried pairing them."

Anyone know what to do?

i take it you have tried different usb ports, maybe its an issue with the motherboard, not sure just my two cents, good luck

or maybe your controller is just f'ed, where in the US do you live? Is there anyway you can borrow a controller to test?

Are you on Windows 10?

If you opt into SteamVR beta, then open SteamVR settings and click the Developer tab, there is a button labeled "Disable Power Management". Press this button then try pairing the controllers again.

I'll try this and let you know what happens. Also, while I was waiting for replies on this thread, I did some messing around and somehow switched the problem from one controller to another... very weird, but yeah, I'll let you know how power management goes.

You actually have to repair. Under the steamvr, click the help and you get an option for how to repair when one is not connecting. You have to hold down a couple buttons on the conntroller that won't connect.

Well now i dont feel so bad i have been working on getting both controlers to pair up at the same time but no good, only 1 will pair and connect other i have to connect to the computer with a six foot usb cord to play with both. and i have tryed everything here on steam and on the web to get both to connect at the same but it isnt happening, i have gone as far as uninstalling all of steam and the vr apps and it still dosnt work. and it dosnt matter which controler i start with once its connected the other will not.

I am having the same problem, hoping that someone can suggest a solution

I spoke with Silence and he provided me with these steps which worked:
1: Plug in both controllers to the PC with the USB cable
2: Open Steam VR, go to settings, Developer, and press "Remove all SteamVR USB Devices"
3: Once complete restart the PC
4: Re-Open SteamVR go to Devices and then press "Update Firmware"
5: On this screen press "Crtl + Shift + Home"
6: Proceed to update all the firmware for all the devices
7: Once everything is updated and Steam VR is restarted, turn on the controllers and unplug them
8: At this point i still had 1 green and 1 blue, i then paired the blue controller by right-clicking the greyed out controller.

Now both are green.

Many thanks to Silence.

thank you for the info, but that only worked ontill i restarted my computer. What i did get to work tho was, i went into the Developer and removed all usb devices then shut down steamvr then went into steam and removed the software, shut down my computer then disconected all the VR equipment so none of it was connected to the computer, restarted my computer, then i connected the VR equipment one piece at a time letting windows find drivers for each piece before plugging in anyother piece once everything was connected i then reinstalled steam vr, and now everything works as it should, make sure up connect 1 controller at a timeand let windows find and install , before you connect the other, onces windows find and installs all drivers then reinstall Steamvr and you should be good to go

So I discovered another issue with the controllers that fixed my syncing issue, immediatly. I dont know why this is an issue, but apparently you HAVE to make sure your vive headset is the default output audio device, which you can either do by default, OR you can change in settings wile in steam VR, I do not take credit at all for this find for a fix, I found it another discussion thread, but unfortunatly I dont remember where, I also again have no idea WHY this works, also it will reset your audio device if you turn off/restart your computer in Steam VR back to your default device, so you will need to either change the vive to your default device, or change it in the settings again after a restart.

Hope this helps others out there who are having issues.

Hi guys, I ran into the same problem. While reading quite a lot about it I found that my Wireless Receiver 1 is greyed out in the USB tab. This is why the maximum connected controllers is set at 1 since the VIVE has two Wireless Receivers for them.

I am still looking for a fix and I noticed some other people talking about similar issues after the last firmware update. I tried disconnecting USB devices, and some steam support suggestions.

ctrl+shift+home doesn't work for me in the Update Firmware menu. Am I doing something wrong with that one?
Graury May 25, 2016 @ 9:44am
It looks like Crtl+shift+home no longer works on the update firmware page. It used to prompt the user to update all firmware now it does nothing :(

Thanks for the response, still looking for another solution than RMA.

I found a way to see both of the controllers when they are connected to my computer. When they are disconnected I still have the same problem though. Now it begins to look more like the problem |AK907| Crackle had. Only his fix did not work for me.

I found that Wireless Receiver 1 is seen as an USB port in my system report: [Port6]: (Failed Enumeration) Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

But still no fix for it, I hope at some point we manage to narrow this problem down.
