Can you turn off PC Mirror
Can you turn off the PC mirroring of games? If I have the headset on, why is there no option to turn off the pushing content to the PC screen too. It should be more like the display mirror in the Steam VR app. It would make recording videos much easier then having another window screw up the headset mirror that you started, then ran the game.

Ya, I dont need to have GPU cycles wasted putting garbage on a monitor that now one can see.

Not really, the games look like just normal on that screen. Makes them go why do I want to buy it, is more like it.

I just turn my flat screen off before I dive in.

While running Steam VR, there is an small window on your computer with a green headset and controllers called Steam VR Status. Right click on it or use the drop down and uncheck "Display Mirror"

That won't work. While the monitor is off, your GPU is still doing extra work to push the images to your monitor while you are in VR as well. So you won't get any better performance. However, if all you want to do is hide the porn you are watching in VR from others that may come into the room, then turning off the monitor does work well.

You can turn off Steam VR's own mirror just by closing the window, or unmarking the option in the menu or the settings. But many games do their own mirroring, and for that you depend on each individual game having the option to turn it off in their settings.

Reducing the window size/resolution should help a little bit with improving the performance for other stuff, and some games do let you set some quality settings differently for the mirror.

I think some screen recording apps let you define the specific window you wanna record and even if other windows show they just record that window, but it has been a very long while since I last used any screen recording apps, I'm even having a hard time remembering names; so you will still need to look up what apps are available and then what features they got.

One thing you could try for the perfomance thing is drag the window down so only the titlebar is visible; there is a small chance there could be some optimization that will prevent the rendering of stuff that is pushed off the screen; but don't count on it.

If you're using Windows 10 you can minimize the Window. Microsoft does not allow the render window to use resources if the window is minimized.

You can get a frame reader to confirm this if you don't believe me. It will count the number of frames the window actually receives. When you minimize it will stop counting since the window isn't rendering frames. Once you normalize or maximize the window again it will continue counting where it left off.

(Source: I'm a developer / Frame counter: Use attach in VS2017 to attach process then run in debug mode, frame counter on right pane. Expand GPU perfmon)

Unless you have a gigantic mirrored window running, it uses up very little gpu or cpu overhead. It just makes your system work a tiny bit harder.

not little bit, it uses video encode/decode on gpu at full capacity...
