Compositor not in Full Screen issues
My vive works great with most games, but with specific title freaks out and gives me:

"Compositor not in full screen" error, SteamVR goes to a 'not ready' status, and my vive has solid red screens. This happens every time I load Space Pirate Trainer, and occasionally with TheBlu.

I've restarted into 'direct mode', unpluged everything, restarted, yadda yadda. But no matter what I do, with SPT, this error pops up. I've tried all the suggestions I found on the Vive Reddit help page concerning this issue, but nothing helps (the idea from that page is that my computer is lying and not realy restarting in direct mode?).

Anyone else have this happen to specifc titles? Any work around?

PS: My rig meets and exceeds recommendations and has a Titan NVidia card.

Hi guys, I fixed it.

QUICK SOLUTION IN PLAIN ENGLISH: You need to left click in the VR display to "activate" the VR window in it and it will go from red to showing the VR game. Just move your mouse to the VR display (your displays are in extended mode aren't they!) and click the left mouse button anywhere in the VR display.

LONG SOLUTION:
Right click on your desktop and choose "screen resolution" to find where your second display is located relative to the main display. My VR device display was on the right. Yours should also be on the right, but in some cases it will be on the left depending on your setup. Now enter VR, start up the game, whatever, till you get the compositor warning or the RED SCREEN OF DEATH. Then grab your mouse and slide the cursor over to whichever side your display was on so it is off your main screen and on the VR screen and left click once (you might not be able to see the cursor once it's off your main screen so just hope). This activates the VR window.

Leave thanks if it helped!

Here is my fix,

I rolled back my Nvidia driver and everything was fixed.

The errors I had where:
Compositor not full screen,
Clicking the link in steamVR to make it full screen did nothing,
Not being able to enable direct mode,
And one that no one here has mentioned was a Windows error that said "Can't find name of intel icd openGL driver"

I hope this helps.

what i have resently found to have been working because i had the same problem is that first i would turn on steam vr then i would wait till all was paired up then i would launch the vr tutorial and once that is up and running and you are in the tutorial vr you can now launch the game that you are wanting to play and all should work out. tell me if it works out for you because it works for me:steamhappy:

hey move the mouse to the far right or left of your screen till your mouse disappears. and then left click your mouse and that should solve your problem. basically think of it as having 2 monitors and your pointing over to the other monitor which is your VR headset and clicking on the program to make it the top task. and then you and ctrl+alt+ del bring up your Task manager and find the game , right click, select always on top. and then just go on as usual using your computer as normal and having a working VR . hope I explained it simple enough

I googled "vive red screen" and got this. It relates to an older version of SteamVR and Vive but the fix may still work:

"the red screen is a warning that you have overlapping windows with the vive window which causes the vive to refresh at the rate of the monitor [...] To fix this I open SteamVR before hand (that little dialog box that shows whether the controllers and base stations are connected) this will pop up with a little box above it whenever the screen is red asking if you want to make the compositor full screen, click that and it'll fix the issue"

You can probably do this without taking off the headset if you press the system button on your Vive controller and switch to the desktop view.

Please reply if this fixes your issue, it would be good for other people to be able to find this.
Minimizing everything possible so it does not overlap with anything when I start SteamVR does fix this issue. Clicking "Make the compositor fullscreen." does not fix the issue, does nothing at all. I admit I have not tried minimizing everything and then clicking compositor fullscreen when SteamVR is already running, it is possible that will work, I will try if I meet this issue again.

I had this working earlier, but now I get the "Compositor is not fullscreen" message, and clicking the "Make Compositor fullscreen" link doesn't do anything.
