Keeps launching with non VR games.
Steam VR keeps launching when I launch The Black Death. I already enetered the game properties and told it to not run steam vr theater mode or whatever.

Had to uninstall SteamVR because no matter what I tried it was launching when I launched non VR games. What the ♥♥♥♥ Valve.
I also get this issue playing certain games. Added "-nosteamvr -nodashboard" to the launch options but that didn't help

I am in the same boat, this is really annoying. I have my Oculus CV1 attached and every time I try to run a certain game it launches the game in VR mode but the game isn't even compatible so it closes the game.

Having the same issues here. "Astray" is unplayable and a newer game "The Turing Test" launches fine and is "playable" but all audio goes through the rift headphones. Can we get some sort of answer on this Valve??

Bumping because this is still not solved. I have to uninstall steamvr again to play Project Genom. Valve, please get your stuff together.

I have this problem even on games I've downloaded, indie free games, that are not even using steam or being launched from it.

I tried putting -nohmd into the launch settings and that seemed to fix it for me.

Some game engines have VR functionality turned on at compile time by default and developers who haven't given VR a second thought may not be aware of that.

That's why some desktop games trigger SteamVR/Oculus Home to launch when you start the game.

Tell the game developer of the affected game that this is happening, so they can disable VR in the engine for their desktop games.

It helped for me to rename the file "open_vr_api.dll" in the directory "..\Valhalla Hills\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\OpenVR\OpenVRv000\Win64" . Seems like Steamhelpers scan the directories for such libraries and start the VR mode no matter if even supported.

Thx @Harvester's Hatch

This is happening to me. Steam doesn't even have to be open and Steam VR will start over and over and over, rendering the computer unworkable until you reboot, and then you don't know when it will start again. Sometime I can keep closing SteamVR for up to an hour before I give up and reboot. It does it even if I don't have the VR headset connected. Terrible.

The same thing happened to me but I am not sure which games are involved yet? It says I have over 80 hours on Steam VR and thats just impossible because I haven't played VR much because I'm waiting to make enough room around my Computer to do so without hitting or running into anything. I have maybe 2-3 hours on my Valve Index VR but according to steam I have over 80 hours so far. WTF...???
