Already opened a ticket with nvidia - they claim to fix the problem in the next driver - but i am very skeptical that will happen .
Funn little facts - i have 4 displays connected - the HDMI works fine with the vive - until i add a dp->vga adapter in the mix - then i get the infamous 400 / 208 error even in HDMI - evything else (nvidia surround / software) keeps working fine . (world of warships seems to notice though - its the only game refusing to start when using the adapter ) this is definitely some very strange issue :)
btw you get error 400 if you have direct mode active and error 208 if you don't - in case you were wondering .. everythi8ng i tried with this setup , i was able to try in windows 10 and windows 7 so i am quite sure there has to be some kind of firmware / bios patch to fix this issue *fingers crossed*
So for an update the vive now works with this cable 10 bucks from mono price. DisplayPort to hdmi.
Any config will work as long as you dont have the link box going straight to a display port. It is bugged at the moment, and the only option is to use the HDMI input.
It is up to you what you want to do. but after spending near 900$ after tax and shipping, why not spend the extra 15.00 - 20.00 $ and make it work in the mean time. I was pissed to but I would rather have a working VIVE than a paperwieght.
Yes they will fix the Display port problem eventually, but in that time you are bnetter of in my opinion at looking at adapters and new cords. they are cheap , especially if you use amazon prime ( 2 day shipping free ) and you can still use your 4k tv like I have. ( if you dont want to wait goto a local radio shack or electronic store they wil have them too )
Just my opinion , but I fell after spending that much cash on the VIVE , you should not worry about $ 20.00 on a new cable and adapter ( note it might be even cheaper for YOU , I bought a 15' cable.
Replacement will be here next week when I'll pick back up.
now i wonder if tv will work on dp to hdmi lead at 60hz 444.
and keep the vive on hdmi.
monitor on dvi..
think thats why we don't get a lead with the Vive becuase it don't work. lol
they tell you to turn the camera of for most problems so that don't work either. lol
thanks for the cashback.. :)
1080 Phoenix GLH-GS - Gainward
I can usually fix the problem by going through the following (annoying) procedure:
1.) Launch Steam VR
2.) Unplug power cable from Link Box
3.) Wait for Windows device disconnect sound
4.) Reconnect power cable
5.) Wait for Steam VR to detect all devices
6.) Restart Vive headset using the Steam VR menu option (this is important, the headset will not work unless doing this step, even though it detects correctly)
7.) Setup now works with the Display cable
Takes a couple of minutes and has to be done after each and every boot. Annoying, but at least its a functional work-around until someone fixes the issue in the drivers or Steam VR stack.
If your GPU driver (or entire machine) crashes, stop using the DVI port and go for another port on your graphics card.
MSI 1070 Gaming X here, the above solved it for now! Thanks a lot!
I ended up using a straight HDMI 4k cable from my link box to the 1080 card. anmd i have no issues.
It sucxks . as it worked on my 970 before the upgrade. but since I bought a adapter and new 15' cable It is working again and I can use my other 2 displays without a issue.
I got the adapter and hdmi cable for $15.00 on amazon and I have prime, so igot it in 2 days, but they offer free shipping ( if your willing to wait ) but the fix is cheap.
AND yes I agree with all of you. !! IT SHOULD WORK for the miniDisplayport to displayport ( as it works on the 900 series { my old that worked was a 970 FTW acx 2.0).!!!
I read Nvidia is looking into the problem, but it has been a very long time and no fix as of yet. If you want it to work for you now , the easy fix is $20.00 * depending on your screen setup. but it will be less than 20.00 I bought a 15' cable ( you may not even need to buy a cable depending on your ROOM setup you may be able to use the hdmi cable it came with. in that case your looking at $5.00 for a adapter. SO THAT IS A REALLY Cheeap fix. and depending where you live you can go to a local radio shack , or similar electronic store and pick one up for $ 5-8
Just an idea for all of you still waiting . AND I AGREE WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BUY MORE STUFF WHEN IT WORK ON 900's CARDS. But this will get you going .
And all in all what is 5 - 20 $ extra to get you going and enjoy your system to its fullest without waiting for a fix.
Very dissapointing, I can't even play VR right now -_-
You can. You can plug the HDMI cable from the Vive directly into your graphics card, and then from your monitor into the side where you were *supposed* to plug your HDMI from Vive, and then connect DisplayPort as normal.
I can play my vive and have my other 2 monitors / screens plugged in all at the same time and I do not have to hassle around with rewiring everytime.
I clcik steamVR and Im good to go.
And yes I know how most of you feel. ( We shouldnt have to buy extra stuff) but it is cheap to fix and you can have your system at 100% with NO HASSLES. just click and play
