SteamVR

So...how the heck do you connect this to the Quest 2?
I'm about to return this I've spent the last hour troubleshooting I've watched Youtube videos read articles NOTHING is working. Why it's this complicated to work with Steam is beyond me.

Got this hours ago. Made account. Got Occulus app on PC. It shows my device. It's green.

Occulus settings. Quest Link. On. Paired. Says Paired but "missing requirements" and the only thing red is "Ethernet" for my PC, which is on a strong wifi connection. Doesn't seem like this should stop the process. It's still green.

Launch SteamVR while occulus app is open and paired on PC, and it tells me to connect my VR headset.

Restarted PC. Restarted Quest 2. Still tells me to connect my VR when I launch SteamVR.

About to just return this crap and get the Index.

yeah i have both index and quest 2. I can tell you when there is an update, it breaks my oculus connect. One app that doesnt break at all is the virtualdesktop with virtualdesktop app. I have not tried it recently but oculus link cable or wifi breaks often for me. the link cable not so much but the wifi is a pain.

try virtual desktop, install on pc, quest 2, install the virtualdesktop sync app as well from virtualdesktop website. it ran fine on my system where link or wifi failed. I have not tried it recently so......experiment.

Well, after 6 hours of troubleshooting, I paid the $20 for virtual desktop and that did the trick. Another user on the official Occulus forums had the same Acer Nitro laptop I do, and was reporting the same issue. There was some discussion about the drivers for the Ryzen 7 5800H causing the issue.

Easily one of the worst out of the box experiences I've ever had with an electronic device.

well that's fantastic. I have the acer nitro+ with the rtx 3080 with the quest 2. It is an uphill battle sometimes but I easily find using virtual desktop and the laptop wifi to wifi default settings in virtual desktop is the best just because of the stability.

I'm going to try quest 2 to cellphone to laptop and see if it works. It's broken using airlink but I love portability. I hope virtual desktop helps.

My nephew came over one time and we played "until they fall". he was on my index and rtx 3090 pc system which is by far an excellent experience. I had my nitro in the living room and I was in the backyard with my quest 2. Very welcoming experience even at 40 degrees temperature outside. I will tell you I have a wifi6 top of the line system in my home from netgear. NEtgear mesh system. it really helps deliver the signal especially for a backyard experience streaming the game.

But nothing to do with the device.

Are you kidding me? I'm no stranger to temps like that, but I can't use my Quest in summer even indoors with the A/C on due to sweatiness. How the hell could you even do that? Apart from that, if you get the sunshine into your headset for a second it could be toast.

No silly, outside in 40 degrees temperature in the dark with some lighting for the boundaries. You can do this if there is enough shade as well during the day. I have a very large tree that covers 3000 square feet.

Well, think I'm coming in a little late here, but to run any app that's not on the Oculus app (like SteamVR ) you gotta enable "Unknown Origins" in the settings, then you can add the app's executable in the library and run it.

SteamVR?

I tried using virtual desktop in the most closed off area of my house where there is enough bandwidth but latency is an issue. Though both virtual desktop and airlink failed, virtual desktop had the better experience. when I have my laptop attached to one of my mesh satellites of my orbi 960 series via ethernet and turned off wifi on my laptop, i can play in my backyard with either airlink or virtual desktop no issues at all. Virtual Desktop is still the better experience.
