Quest 2 VR FPS cut to half on some games
idk if this will reach to anyone because i was looking for an answer for 4 months now literally, my issue is that i can run Half-life Alyx Max setting and resolution smoothly with 90 fps almost 99%, but when i start playing Devour it just runs at half Frames 45 or less even , not even once reaches above that number, i tried disabling ASW but it didn't work i tried all the other solutions but nothing worked , what is bothering me that Half-life alyx more demanding but still runs 100x better. plz is there any fix for that? im guessing that there is an option or something i didn't click on? i had RX VEGA 64 and bought RTX3070 because i thought it was because of my AMD GPU but no it still the same.

PLZ HELP

EDIT: I'm using oculus link cable - this happens also with SURV1V3 and THE FOREST

my specs: RTX 3070 - Ryzen 5 3600 - 16 GB RAM

That's due to ASW, it renders half the frames and tries to reconstruct the other half to save GPU performance, on unsupported games it doesn't work but still cuts the framerate, you can disable ASW and mobile ASW in the Oculus Debug Tool ( unfortunately it auto-enables itself everytime you enable link/airlink). Anyways, check your resource usage in the task manager to see if anything is using alot of system resources and also check the performance overlays in the Oculus debug tool, also make sure to disable home in both oculus and steamVR as it's known to eat up resources in the background, and also make sure Oculus is the OpenXR runtime in Oculus's settings.

hey thanks for the reply i did exactly what you said but still i got the exact same issue i just used snipping tool to screenshot the readings:

I guess they don't look great, but like i told you i can run better games with stable FPS, i was thinking that maybe it has to do with unity engine, because SURV1V3 have exactly the same issue.

Check your resolution scaling for the game, make sure it's set to 1 and to disable any supersampling, seems that your GPU is struggling with the game wich most likely due to the app resolution, maybe you put the supersampling option on oculus abit high? You can probably tone it down using steam for just this game, assumed this because your "app resolution" is at 5408x2736 ( at the last screenshot) wich is abit much.

i maxxed the resolution for the oculus it works fine with games such as half-life alyx - blood and sorcery etc.. is Devour more demanding than these games? i tried lowering the Resolution but nothing happened. and why encoder and app have different resolution is that normal? and in the last picture you can see that the app frame rate is capped at 45. i really tried playing the game on the lowest setting ever but still the exact same problem .

The Encoder res is what's sent to the headset, wich in this case is abit above the native res of the quest ( 3648 is the native width of the quest 2), don't really know whats happening regarding 45fps, it seems the game is running at 45hz, it might have some kind of ASW of something similar to that enabled or smth, but it's definetly not supposed to do that, tried asking around the specific game's discussion area?

yeah i did but no one answered, i tried literally all the fixes, audio bugs etc... nothing worked but every game that has the same engine as devour runs the same and games that have different engine runs like butter. SURV1V3 have the same problems which is running at half FPS, what is annoying that my friend does not have that issue. someone said to me on reddit that it is more demanding than half life alyx but i don't believe that, no way my pc cannot run Devour VR. i tried looking for answers in oculus support but i couldn't find the place to report this issue, this ruined my experience tbh

One thing to try would be running the game directly on Oculus, if the game runs on Unity the startup setting is "-vrmode oculus" ( they're case insensitive), after some search it seems that the 45hz issue is somehow related to V-sync, if there's a V-sync option in the game make sure to disable it, also make sure to disable V-sync in the driver's settings. ( Here's the links where I found some clues about it being related to V-sync https://docs.unrealengine.com/4.27/en-US/SharingAndReleasing/XRDevelopment/VR/VRPerformanceAndProfiling/Considerations/ , https://steamcommunity.com/app/358720/discussions/0/535152276583886098/ )

hey do i write these commands on "Launch Options"?
carlosChanpio70 Aug 27, 2022 @ 11:12pm
On the Steam library, right click the game - properties and launch options should appear there, just write -vrmode oculus ( be mindful this specific launch option only works for unity games, I don't remember what's the one for Unreal games ) there.

I did both for unity and unreal but didn't work still capped at 45hz i turned off v-sync both in-game and in driver-options, there is definitely something that make the game cap at 45fps, is it a chip that i download for my AMD motherboard? my head hurts now, its ok to get low fps sometimes because thats how unity games work but getting max fps of 45fps is just annoying. when im in the menu it plays great with 90fps once the in-game cut scene starts it drops to 45. don't you think if i could play half-life alyx and re4 on max resolution that i should be able to run Devour higher than 45?
