I don't think VRAM can fill this fast. Do you have a graph? HWInfo64 can help. Also avoid using custom SteamVR home locationd or models for debugging.

It does the second I start steamvr, I have a lcd display on my kb with an app from aida 64

Cpu usage is also going from 35% to 60~ i73770k turbo oc to 4.4ghz

steam vr is installed on default location.

I don't do anything else but play games in steam vr I brought subnautica 2 days ago, might that be it ?

But thing is, I don't have any game running nor is the oculus in my haed for the matter so the oculus display is not active

I installed HWI64 and it tells the same it goes up to almost 100% the second Steam vr is turned on

2days ago it was fine

and i just watched a game trailer on steam store it stutters a lot but the instant I turned off Steamvr it went normal

Have you changed the SuperSampling settings in SteamVR?
SupaKool 14. sep. 2017 kl. 3.55
I recall making some changes here not sure which now.

SS Setting now is 1.0 on the bar and "enableAdvanced Supersample filtering " is ticked

developer window on top I have selected

start Steamvr with app
enable vr dashboard
pause renderingf when headset is idle

On performance tab I recall chaning sometihng here again not sure what but I only have selected "perf heuristic active" and "allow asynchronous reprojection"

I reinstalled steam vr an uninstalled subnautica just in case but problem remains.

is this a known issue with steam vr ?

Oculus home seems to have problems while using steam vr. You should disable oculus home.
SupaKool 14. sep. 2017 kl. 10.34
oculus home is not open when I use steam vr is that what you mean ?

SupaKool 14. sep. 2017 kl. 10.46
so I checked device manager and disabled vr compositor and vram went to 0 so I guess this problem is related to vr compositor.

what is vr compositor ?

and is there a fix for it or another version I can try ?

This is about only thing I found. Oculus sdk seems to have some problems.

I don't think that problem relates to mine, in my case I don't even activate the oculus displays it's happening right after starting steam vr, even before it recognizes the oculus

I cannot believe I'm the only one with this problem, just upgraded the 980 to a strix 1080 ti oc and problem remains, this has got to be somethin related to steam vr

What is vr compositor ? because if I disable it in device manager vram drops to 0

The image above shows that 35% use of VRAM for a 1080TI when SteamVR is running my Vive....... so it is something related to the Oculus.

The image above shows OculusVR & SteamVR running at the same time using ~37% of VRAM for a 1080 - so it still can be either a problem with Oculus or with SteamVR, or a combination of both - there has to be another factor on the Ops system.

OK, so some solid information to work with....... OP needs to find why their pc is running SteamVR at 100% VRAM usage...... because it is not a SteamVR or Oculus problem.

Yeah... I would try the following steps to see if something broke with the GPU driver / Oculus-Combination:
(1) Uninstall Oculus Software
(2) Uninstall Nvidia Drivers with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode
(3) Reboot
(4) Install Nvidia Driver 385.41, as this one works for me
(5) Install Oculus Software
