SteamVR
Error 436 on brand new valve index
Until now I figured few things :
SteamVR tell me it out of date, if I log on my clean windows I no longer get this message
Error 436 only with nvidia drivers, until it's solved, I uninstall my nvidia driver to play ( not the best but it's better than nothing ) or I disable direct mode ( also not the best but faster than uninstalling each time )
So, since it looks like it's an nvidia issues I tried few versions but with no success :/

No, this solution don't work for me :/

Windows update, SteamVR update, any firmware update?

Windows, SteamVR, Steam, bios, nvidia, ... all components are up to date
they way you install the nvidia driver is important. make sure you uninstall all components and do a fresh clean install with all components. don't pick and choose. I had problems myself until I did the udpates and downgrades but complete not just a few checks here and there.

I uninstalled all nvidia components, then downloaded and installed the latest version. Is that what you mean ?
yes, also try in the developers section and remove all usb device drivers. unplug headset and replug see if this updates and fixes the issue.

Yeah, it's this error. But this fix don't work for me, now I no longer can use the headset even without directmode ...
Edit, after a full reboot I can use it again without directmode

Have you checked the Windows Reliability Monitor?
I didn't, I found a livekernelevent error 144 listed as graphic card issue. But the fix is to update graphic card and mine is already up to date :/

maybe a fresh reinstall of the graphic card drivers

As I already say, I made a fresh install, even a fresh windows installation, but problem still here :/
Try to start Windows in secure mode.
