SteamVR

SteamVR has encountered a critical error...
Getting this one a lot. Random...

Just happens.

No overclocking, and hey presto a game will just start wobbling and things go black.

3090, and this has been kind of happening irregularly for over a month.

Kind of ruining VR because now every time I play I expect a crash.

And yes, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR.

Any ideas?

Some more info, it's ALWAYS the same error:

BEX64, code 0xc0000409 and:

"The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application."

This has been going on for a long time....

Faulty module is ucrtbase.dll.

That's all I got.

That is more likely a driver issue for the gpu than something wrong with SteamVR itself. Have you tried do a clean reinstall of the drivers for the gpu?

Seems that's a general overflow error and ucrtbase.dll is the reporting module, not the root cause.

Looks like one guy's printer driver was causing his accounting software to give the same error.

A bad or inadequate PSU caused the same error for this guy:

So if Yuko's suggestion doesn't work, check your PSU health. You might also try a slight underclock to get relief.

Thanks for the replies - it's 99% certainly the drivers. I've just looked in appcrashview and all the historic causes started literally the day I installed the 465.89s.

I'll get rid and install either the previous or more recent sets.

Thank you both very much - I'll report back in due course hopefully with good news!

So?

So?

This had been going on for a month, and while there's been no issues since I installed the new driver set YET I don't want to jinx it. Was going to wait for a while before updating.
sorry but i do not agree with everything marke above. i got these errors all the time with DCS, playing and then a blank and on the monitor this message indicating steam vr encounter a critical error and i can restart steam vr or quit stem vr.
meanwhile DCS is still running, i can see it on the mirror view.

what i found so far is taht it seems that id i disable reprojection then i do not have the crash.
I also noticed that almost all my VRAM is used 9580MB out of 10GB... but as the steam VR is stealing 3GB of vram i'm not surprised uinfortunately.

466.11 at present, and had no issues since I removed that driver set. Was definitely the problem.
