Is my laptop compatible with the valve index?
Hello, i'm thinking of getting the valve index but i'm not sure if it will work with my laptop. I have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M15 (GU502LW-BI7N6). the laptop does not have a built in camera, do i need one? I'm just new to vr and am not sure about all this stuff. I used the "are you ready for valve index" thing on steam, and it came up all green check marks, but it also said if i was using a laptop, I might need to check requirements, but idk what i'm doing. :GDHard:

You will also need a display port on your laptop. You don't need a built-in camera.

These are the stats i found online about my laptop, is this what you need?

CPU: Intel Core i7-10750H
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q
DISPLAY: 15.6”, Full HD (1920 x 1080), 240 Hz, IPS
STORAGE: 1000GB SSD
RAM: 2x 8GB DDR4, 3200MHz

And also this might be a dumb question, but what is a display port?
I looked it up myself. Your laptop does not have a DP port but does have a thunderbolt 3 port with DP ability. This might cause conflicts as the VR headset requires a DP connection. You might be able to get away with an adapter but from what I've seen a lot of adapters can cause issues unless it's a direct mini-dp to regular dp. The adapter also costs $80 if that's your thing.

Depends on the VR kit you'll use.

Oculus Rift needs 3 USB 3.0+ ports, 2 for the sensors, 1 for the headset, and a HDMI output port.
Rift S needs only 1 USB 3.0+ port, and 1 Display Port (google it for an image)
Oculus Quest 2 just needs 1 hdmi port via Oculus Link cable (Sold seperately)
HTC vive im not sure, same with Index; Quick google search for what ports they need should sort you o/

With regards to your system specs though, your PC will run most VR titles absolutely fine, albeit perhaps slightly lowered graphical settings.

You could always consider looking into a different headset instead like an Oculus. Those don't require DP ports but may not provide as good of an experience.
