Can i play non VR games in steamVR ?
is there a way to play non VR games in VR ?

i mean when u launch a non VR game instead of having a screen in a VR room, get a split screen / double image of the game.

i remember i did it once by using a software to make a "split screen" double image of GTA5 and show it on my phone which was in a VRbox (its something like Google Cardboard) without SteamVR.

now the problem is that free software doesn't seem to exist anymore so im looking for an alternative (or a way to do it in SteamVR cause apparently you can connect your Google Cardboard to SteamVR and make it think that its a real VR headset)

There is VorpX, but people are not really happy using it. The main problem is that flat screen games are not designed to be played with a VR headset. I've never used it, by the way.

I had a lot of fun with VorpX. Imagine playing your normal games on a big 3D cinema screen. It needs some tweaking though.

I play Elder scrolls online all the time with VorpX, Lots of games work with VorpX but very few work well ESO being the best for me, they always need a tonne of tweaking to get they comfortable.

Agree with the comments above, VorpX is worth getting, it's inexpensive and fun to play around with, It is fairly customizable, but Results may vary.

If your looking for totally free, and don't mind fiddling and tweaking settings, you can use Reshade with SuperDepth3D to generate a 3D Side-By-Side image, then view it in VR with the Depth3D VR Companion App on the author's github:
https://github.com/BlueSkyDefender/Depth3D

You can also use Virtual Desktop to view 3D SBS (what I use), or Bigscreen (free), or VRToolbox ($,abandoned?)

If you have an nvidia card, HelixVision is also worth checking out

VorpX is pretty much a mix of both (both depth buffer and geometry 3D), it's just the most expensive. It also has some other features like making non-VR games into VR, but of course you'll get mixed results with that.

Lol not sure where you got that idea, VorpX is the best alternative for pancake games and people like it...

Yeah, I play more games like this in VR than actual VR games. Great for third-person games. Once you get a feel for the depth settings it becomes fairly easy to get great results, even with new games.

Another tip is to limit the game FPS to half the refresh rate of your headset, and force motion smoothing always-on (reprojection, etc). This lets you bump up all of the settings and the resolution and still get smooth gameplay.
