The only fix seems to be rebooting... sometimes more than once.
this worked for me
I think you're onto something because I haven't been able to replicate this with any other graphics settings such as HAGS on/off, REBAR on/off, etc... wouldn't surprise me if it's an aggressive background task scheduling feature in W11. I'll let you know if this reliably fixes or reproduces the issue for me.
Yeah i think this is why some people have the issue and some people dont. its the only inconsistency i could find. For me i always minimized steam without even thought to it on win10 but it seems its the only thing that fixes this issue in my case. And i know its not performance cause i have about 9k hours on steam vr on win10 with absolutely no issues until on win11. I hope this helps "solves your issue" even though it still should be fixed on either valves or microsofts side.
The issue for me usually starts shortly after launching a new title or when loading SteamVR Home. The issue often gets resolved (for a while) by restarting SteamVR (sometimes it requires a few restarts, though). I usually force the restart from within VR by enabling or disabling the Index cameras, which then gives the option to restart SteamVR.
Hardware specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, 3700 MHz (AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver 3.10.08.506, which corrects behavior of UEFI CPPC2 (“preferred core”) in Windows 11, installed)
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming w/ most recent BIOS
- Memory: 65449 MB (4 x 16 GB DDR4-3200 DDR4)
- Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (Driver Version: 30.0.14.9613)
- Audio device: Speakers (Realtek Audio)
- Monitors: 2 x LG 27GP850-B (1440p @ 144Hz w/ GSync enabled)
- Headset: Valve Index (w/ 2 lighthouses and 2 knuckles controllers)
Software specs:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro (build 10.0.22000.282 with KB5006746, which corrects the AMD L3 caching issue, applied)
- Most recent Steam beta & SteamVR beta (as of 10/23/21)
Same issue for me.
1. Start any app/game
2. Runs butter smooth for a few seconds
- SteamVR performance graph shows all green
3. After a little while, a flood of pink lines/frame drops on the performance graph
Completely erratic. Takes an inconsistent number of restarts to fix.
VR was running fine before the update (Valve Index).
Games, VR Home, and just about anything else runs 100% fine - but god help me if I try to open desktop view to change a setting. So far I've learned to simply take off my headset & walk to my monitor (novel concept, I know).
but yes it seem that it'S because you have multiple or not the game window open.
I don't know if it's a windows 11 issue or an SteamVR issue, in any case it's a real issue.
