SteamVR

SteamVR

Got a new monitor, and SteamVR doesn't work. All VR Games marked as needing to be installed?
Went from a 1080p monitor to a 49" curved screen high res monitor. Absolutely love the monitor, but haven't played VR in the last 3 weeks to a month due to very busy at work. Finally decided I'm going to sit down and play some Star Wars Squadrons.

As a safety precaution, knowing this monitor's much higher resolution would cause more lag on the Valve Index, I reduced the resolution to 1920x1080. Reboot to make sure everything is clean and nothing running in background, run Steam VR and get prompted that it needs to be installed. I figure it's an update. I tell it to go ahead. It then says it is reviewing existing Steam VR Files. Tells me it needs to download approx 1.5gb. I let it do its thing. Once finished, I run the app, and get a windows error crash targeting file nvlddmkm.sys. Reboots.

I try again. Same thing, as well as (You must sync files as the files (same date and time on both ends) do not match. I've gotten this error before and in the past, it didn't matter which way I chose, it worked to fix the "problem". Same thing.. The moment Steam VR attempts to fire up, I get the same windows stop error targeting that file.

I run Nvidia updated and find there is a new version of my RTX 3070TI driver, so I update it. Try again. Same problem. Then I notice.. every one of my VR games I click on under Steam (not Steam VR) lists them as not installed/needing to be installed.. They are all physically installed and have been so for quite some time. How can suddenly 20 or so games, in excess of 300gb of data, not be installed and need to be reinstalled? It seems to be that some kind of update has screwed my install and it was just happenstance that it happened during the time I got my new monitor. No other hardware or software changes have been made other than what I listed above.

Update.. I've fully deleted/uninstalled the VR software and reinstalled it. Still didn't correct the problem. Finally, I unplugged the new monitor (plugged in via Display Port) and plugged in a 1080p through the HDMI port. Now SteamVR works, however all of my VR games are still listed as not installed. When I go to install one, it looks to see what files are here, finishes its search, doesn't download or install any files, and allows me to play the game again.

For some reason SteamVR does not like 2 devices plugged in Via Display Ports. So now I have to switch to my projector that's HDMI, and unplug my primary display screen that's Display Port before running SteamVR or it will crash the computer. Any idea why I'm having this problem?

My main PC runs a 4k 144hz 43iinch 16 to 9 aspect ratio monitor through a display port. My valve index runs a display port. It is in direct mode. I also use a quest 2 so i can run around my backyard with SteamVR enabled.

I have no issues.

Try enabling direct mode see if it fixes the issue. I have a rtx 3090 with windows 10 latest update and nvidia latest drivers. See if this works. update the drivers.

I'm not sure what you are talking about when it comes to "Direct Mode". Where is that option? And I always run the latest nvidia drivers :)

Check that the tv firmware is updated and also explain the problem to the tv manufacturer. it took about 6 months for LG to update the TV firmware to allow my PS4 to recognize the TV supported HDR. When these TVs ship new, they rarely seem to have proper drivers. Especially if it's a LG.

Sounds like your Steam Installation lost your Game library check and make sure you games are being installed to the right drives. You might have a Steam Library on a different drive and the Update lost the path to it.

It's a computer monitor. Not a TV. The Odyssey G9, or more specifically: LC49G95TSSNXZA

It works fine if I disconnect the monitor and plug it into my projector (HDMI). If I have my monitor connected via Display Port, the computer crashes and reboots. Only change I need to make to prevent it is unplug the G9 monitor and it works..but that means I need to have my projector running so I can see what I'm doing not on the VR.

I just firmware updated my monitor, and updated to the new drivers that just game out 3 days ago for my Nvidia RTX 3070 and same problem. PC Crashes and reboots the moment I open the VR app.

I have the same monitor and the same problem. What I do to avoid it is I turn on the PIP/PBP Mode in the monitor menu. This reduces the screen size to 50 % at a 2560x1440 resolution. When I start the Steam VR app it works. It is still not satisfying but at least you don't need an additional monitor of some sort. If there is a proper solution to this by now please let me know as I am still investigating. I used this monitor with a 1080ti before and didn't have any problems. I switched to a 3080ti and now it suddenly is a problem.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I seem to have almost the exact same issue currently. I am only able to use steamVR if i unplug my 4k144hz monitor. I would really appreciate it if you were able to find a better solution.
