I have also used tripods, but they are pretty bad (both camera and flash). The main problem is that you need to redo the room setup every single time a tripod is touched even a little bit as tracking would be messed up. I didn't have any shaking problems on a hard floor, even though I had cheapest possible tripods that on loan. I would use those only if you need a mobile VR set and can't get use those cargo poles (too high ceiling, transport problems).
I have now two cargo poles at home, mostly for temporary screen screen usage, but then I would also fit base stations for those if needed. I have also two mounting plates, that were sold as accessories for those poles. Base stations are easy to mount with those.
At home I use different kind of camera clips, I like those most (check my profile's Artwork section for images). There are usually always some kind of fixed furniture, pipe or something that can be used. No holes needed and I can easily relocate base stations when needed (I have two VR sets on two different rooms).
