Doesn't the Quest have to be connected to your GPU to use it (as opposed to using your integrated GPU)?
Anyway at this point I can get SideQuest as well as an unauthorized sideloader to work...still can't get Steam VR. I think it's some little detail I'm missing.
https://www.oculus.com/setup/
just press the download button.
also quest 2 pc-link cable has a minimum requirement of USB 3.2 Gen 1 USB C port. using a C to A adapter might work, but is unsupported.
also, the cable link only supports certain video cards; https://support.oculus.com/444652019523821/
there are three ways to play SteamVR games with our Quest2:
1) Link + Oculus software on PC: using the official cable or any compatible usb3 cable, start in the quest2 and click on Oculus Link to start a PCVR session. From there go to library and you should have access to your games purchased on Oculus Rift store and SteamVR games. If you don't see SteamVR in your Oculus library then use the virtual desktop feature of Oculus interface and manually start a SteamVR game from your Steam library.
2) Virtual desktop: /!\ you need to buy virtual desktop in the Oculus Quest 2 store /!\ Version bought in Steam or in the Rift Oculus store WILL NOT WORK. Once Virtual desktop is installed, plug your headset to your computer using a USB cable and start Sidequest. From Sidequest you need to install the Virtual desktop patch/update. Last step, be sure that you downloaded and installed the Virtual desktop Streamer application from the official website.
When all those steps are completed: start in the quest 2, connect to the correct wifi access point you want to use for VD and start the Virtual desktop application. It will connect automatically to your PC If your streamer application is running on your PC. From there you can start Oculus and SteamVR games.
3) ALVR: install ALVR on your quest using Sidequest and the server application on your computer. Start in your quest2, go to unknown sources in your library (use the filter in the top right) and start ALVR. If everything was setup correctly you should see SteamVR setup and you can start configuring and playing your games.
i have found that steamvr games need to be run in vr mode at least once before it ill sho up in the rift libary.
also, personally I have, from before I got my quest 2, and as using my hobo vr ssetup, Rifcat 2.0 (PC) and Vridge (android). this software is not free, but costs next to nothing. an added advantage of this softare is it provides the ability to play normal PC games in VR. it supprtd both wireless andd usb connections. But, like the sidequest option, it requires sideloading. the process should be simpler than with the sidequest. you should only need to connect you occulus to you PC, then copy the .APK to thee device. you should be able to install the package from the quest 2 in standalone mode. don't quote me on that though. i ill probably install vridge to my quest 2 eventually.
people are trying to use cheap non fiberoptic cables, they need to give that up.
was tottaly off on how to get vridge on to the quest2..... you can dowwnload the .apk using firefox to quest 2. nut there is no way to execute the package from the HMD side of things.
Perplexed here!
