Valve index knuckles
I want to upgrade my setup and buy index base stations and knuckles. Today i found that to run this set up i need additional dognles to pair the controlers. What i found is that you cannot buy them in steam shop. Alternative is a HTC tracker dongles which are either expensive or unavailable.

Could you advise if there is alternative dongle? Can i buy USB dogne and load the steam software to pair controllers?

So... what is your current headset?

This is important because that's what the controllers normally connect to. If you have a Vive or Vive Pro you can upgrade just fine as the Index controllers should be able to pair with the headset directly. I personally know people who've done this.

I've been told one can flash BT dongles to become Watchman dongles, what is used for SteamVR controllers, but I have honestly never seen an example of that so not sure if actually possible.

I use knuckles and Vive pro wireless. They use a very regular usb cable. And Boll is right.

Oh, oh yeah then you'd need dongles I guess. And as you mentioned the Steam Controller dongles are out of production, I have two of those for a similar reason, connecting different controllers without re-pairing. Not sure if there are any better alternatives than trying to get your hands on Tracker dongles yeah... 😥

Just got the Reverb g2 today and wow :) I am happy just need to figure out why the knuckles show up about 10 feet below me lol

but ya you need to get the third party dongles to set them up properly

Yeah I heard the Knuckles can be made to work with the Reverb G2 but that they won't work as well with it as they do with the Valve Index.

@graymin - how did you get SteamVR to connect to your Index Controllers? I already purchased two dongles, have a fully functional set of base stations, and have attempted to follow web guidance like https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/gtg5h7/hp_reverb_g2_with_knuckle_controllers/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=r_SepHooREo, in an attempt to use my great Index Controllers with my G2. I cannot get SteamVR device menu to initialize the dongles and Index Controller, because it claims it cannot find a headset, even though SteamVR home is displayed correctly in the headset. Any suggestions? Steam Support said they will not support Index Controllers with Reverb G2...

ya mrtv is what I used he had a text version that had a link to Ovr to the new guy that is up keeping the program now but I cant find it

ok the link there is the right one
open vr space calibrator is also needed

you have light house's ?

Yes - I have 2 lighthouse emitters - they work great with my wireless lens modified Vive Pro and Index Controllers. SteamVR is also working with my Reverb G2 and its native WMR controllers (note that Windows Mixed Reality Portal must be launched first). SteamVR refuses to proceed with the Pair Controller step under the Devices menu, stating that it cannot find a VR headset, asking if the headset is turned on - even though it is displaying the SteamVR home environment perfectly. I cannot get to Space Calibrator step, since SteamVR is not allowing the introduction of another controller...

I wrote instructions for using Index controllers with a WMR headset a while ago. See link below if you're interested.

When you try to pair the controller and SteamVR says it cannot find a headset, what does the little VR monitor window show? Does it show a full headset icon? If not, I would focus on fixing that first.
And try first with only one WMR controller on.
Maybe you can fool SteamVR by also connecting your VivePro on USB only, so it will see that, and then unplug it when you get to the Pair Controller screen.

Sorry for the delay - just noticed your response, thanks.

Note that I have a WIRELESS connection to my Vive Pro, which requires a special hardware card installed in my PC motherboard. It is only activated when I enable the wireless connection, as a first step before connecting to SteamVR. Windows Mixed Reality environment and WMR for SteamVR are working perfectly, with my Reverb G2 connected and Vive Pro wireless connection disabled. However, as soon as I initiate controller pairing, the Controller Pairing pop up screen says (in all text window)

"Initializing

Looking for your VR hardware.

Make sure your headset is connected or your wireless adapters are plugged in and turned on."

It does not matter whether or not I have the Watchman dongles plugged in - I cannot get past this connection error message.

I also own a Pimax 8K and Index HMD, but I prefer my wireless, OLED based Vive Pro with the GearVR continuous lens mod replacing the stock Vive Pro fresnel lens. This Vive Pro lens mod provides a MUCH larger viewing sweet spot than HMDs like Reverb G2, but G2 has almost double the resolution in its narrower sweet spot (and more god rays/blurring beyond sweet spot).

The SteamVR 1.15.12 icon window shows WMR HMD and two windows controllers, with "Standing by
Put on your headset to wake VR" message, when this paring error message appears.

@horizon4: Can you connect your V pro wired?
DAN-di-WARhol Dec 5, 2020 @ 9:17am
Once you have your V pro connected up wired (by everything except the cable to your graphics card), you should be able to power on your index knuckes and pair them whilst in WMR SteamVR. Then it is just software calibration.

If that isn't working, check your connections on your Vive Pro and base stations. Something isn't working right.

I have both the index controller and headset (so don't need the dongles) however struggling to get this to calibrate using the MRTV guide- everything is powered up[ and detected on the index (controller/headset /base stations) but when I switch across to the G2 (my base stations power down to standby (blue)) - then when I load up space calibrator its detecting both index and g2 controllers but it gives me a "not tracking" error message (presume for the index controllers) - just wondering If i need to keep the base stations powered up (green) for all this to work? (if yes will I need to tweak the power management settings for the index basestations)?
