Now the rebuttle is there are lots of posts in forums complaining. Well of course there will be, people do not start threads to say "oh mine works fine". Even at the end of the video, the guy says he believes it is a small amount of people, so totally contracts what he says at the start.

Like if it was the same here I would not be able to call myself kobs or Ex: Ceejay it would have to be our real names and with it the possibility for anyone with a little knowledge to access all of your stuff including your home address which is getting a little weird.
But it's the FB TOS that's the big issue because it can change without warning like when they started all this and you were able to access Oculus with a fake identity, it was all clean back then Oops! not anymore... what else are they going to change without warning? what else are they going to want from their users ?
The fact that it's only affecting a small group of peoples is the same as if someone would say it's ok it doesn't affect me so it's probably nothing. Those peoples paid for their stuff, in a manner of speaking they were robbed, they bought something from a giant Co. that they can't use just because they wanted to be anonymous and that's a big deal
This should not be just a FYI, it should be a big friggin WARNING sign if you're thinking of buying from Oculus/FB, know EXACTLY what you're getting into, if they don't tell you themselves you really should think twice
Though I can understand those that who want to stay anonymous this can be an issue. Again though fb are working on it.
On a side note fake accounts have always been against the TOS for fb. Multiple accounts are against TOS.
It all depends on what you classify a fake facebook account. People who have genuine facebook accounts for their online persona's, I believe are being allowed to use their accounts, not all are being banned, it is a small number, those that have been banned however need to prove its a genuine account and not being used for misuse etc.
So people are getting some of their accounts back etc, facebook are working on it, its just some profiles got caught up in the process that they used for catching actual fake profiles etc.
It should be noted of course, that quite a few people who have been banned and are complaining, were actually using full on false accounts and using them for actions against fb terms and conditions in the first place, so it was their own fault.
fyi You cannot access your full home address, just general area.
Also again to be fair, not all gamers were lied to. I bought mine well aware I needed to use my Fb account. The quest 2 was always advertised this as such. Though granted previous Oculus users have been lied too.
As for your 2nd vid, have you watched it all the way through? its quite a balanced look, Even in the vid, he states for most people, it will not matter and at the end he still recommend buying the oculus regardless of the issues. :)
Again its about balance. There are pros and cons.
If you point blank do not want a facebook account, then you simply cannot buy an oculus....but then if you do not want a steam account, you cannot have steam or those who do not want an ea origin account, well you cannot access their store.....so again its all about how you view things.
When peoples buy an Oculus instead of an Index or a Reverb, 3 out of 4 times it's a budget decision and having your headset bricked for what ever reason is worse cause these peoples didn't have the money to start with and it's just wrong, FB shouldn't brick or even have the right to restrict the use of good functioning hardware someone bought from them and that's where it doesn't make sense to buy from them. Isn't it enough that things are made to break these days.
I agree they should make it far more obvious about what you need to do.
I mean I knew about facebook, but looking at a few adverts both on their website and partners, there is no mention of it anywhere. So Joe public wont realise.
Just check if the device is what you are looking for and if you are okay with the FB thing, otherwise the ban is not a real issue.
It's written on the box, although I definitely agree they should be more clear in their campaigns.
eg. i broke my right hand index controller, i mean it SHATTERED in to several pieces. support said i had to purchase a new controller, yet when i went to buy a RIGHT hand controller, i come to find i MUST purchase the left one too!!?????????????????????????????????????
i DO NOT need a left one. i am NOT going to pay for a left one, yet my other 2 HMDs allow me to purchase a single controller!!!
my vet friends and i have been boycotting valve for well over a month now. well over $15000 has gone to their competitors. just yesterday, i talked 2 people out of buying an index after i told them of valve's perfidious business practices. 1 of them actually went and bought a hololens 2. can not wait to try it out!!!
I hear you, I broke the left ski of a brand new pair I bought and the store didn't want to sell me a left one I had to buy a new pair.......... THEY SELL THEM IN PAIRS man, it's the way it works like a pair of gloves or a pair of socks. Some places sell them by the unit but not everyone does, buy the pair and sell it on Ebay, I'm sure someone like you is looking for the other side.
