What is the real down sides?

If they would stop making those stupid controllers I would buy it.

How does this help , on just the headset?

It's a good headset if you're only about visuals but it has a lot of problems. I had issues with the screens and audio and it's on rma lol. I sent it the first time they didn't repair for some reasons... So I sent it back and they replaced everything inside the headset so it should be good now. For my iossues I had vertical scan lines just like the same issue we had with the index and has been fixed with collumn correction but not for the vive unfortunately.
Also the support team is weird and confusing, just look at the vive forum and what's happening a lot of people are returning the headset and they get it back with no issues found, they had to send it a second time to get a repair.... It happened a million times.. Repair happening in Romania. If they see issues they just replace everything without taking time.

In terms of visuals it's currently unbeatable but keep in mind these caveats are to take into consideration. You might be lucky or you'll have a decent chance of having a falling unit.
HTC has strongly bad quality control. And remeber, it's HTC not valve anymore don't expect the same quality as the original vive, despite the headsets looking the same it's totally different and you feel it.
I'm happy with my HP G2, lots of peoples bi*ch about the controllers but I'm not a contortionist, I rarely do movement behind my back so it doesn't bother me at all. If you have the ambient light right, you won't have any problems and btw changing batteries in 30 seconds instead of quitting a game to recharge your controllers is far better. Display is crisp and clear, colors are unmatched what's not to love
Here's the real answer for you.

Dude if he wants the vive pro 2 it's probably because he already has base stations, controllers etc... The hp reverb is a good headset tho.

then what else would have just about the same great stuff as this? the reverb g2? id have to go through the trouble to pair base station tracked controllers (since id soon be using index controllers)

like what else out there has as good stuff as the vive pro 2?

how likely would i get the bad luck? or was these just the average amount of unlucky people as for any vr headset out there?

yea i already have everything else, i just need a headset that is good overall, and best tracking as we can get it, and maybe not need extra software to make base station tracked controllers to work
