NOOB ALERT - HTC CONNECTION OPTIONS - Cosmos Elite
I bought the HTC Vive Cosmos Elite and a Lenovo Legion 5i 15 with a RTX 2060 gpu. Everything meets the recommended specs.

Upon unwrapping my HTC and going through the set up, I came to realize that the HDMI is not compatible with my laptop. I have multiple USB and HDMI ports but nothing connects. I looked into the HTC Link Box on Amazon but it doesn’t come with a power adapter and there is nothing I can find that says it’s compatible with the like box.

♥♥♥♥ing help me please. Anyone.... I specifically bought this laptop because it was the most reasonably priced with the highest GPU in that class. But now I can’t even hook it up. The online setup even talks about using the link box (keeps talking about the orange inputs) but there is nothing else I can find. I searched HTC and they don’t specify anything.

That incompatible HDMI connector is in reality a DisplayPort connector. The Cosmos Elite[www.vive.com] is supposed to ship with a DP-> miniDP adapter for laptops, what your laptop specs do not list though is the available video output ports 😅

Edit: I found this page[www.lenovo.com], which makes it seem like you have DisplayPort capability, but over USB-C, so you'd need an adapter to use it with standard DPs.

The HTC did ship with the mini DP adapter. But nothing fits on the laptop I have. I’ll I have the 81Y600FUS laptop on the link you added.

If I buy the HTC Link Box shown on Amazon. Will that resolve the HDMI issue?

And will a 3rd party power adapter be ok?
BOLL Aug 6, 2020 @ 2:12am
Again it's not an HDMI issue, it's DisplayPort, it's not an HDMI with a square corner, it's a different type of plug.

The link box is for the original Vive, it won't take a DP from the headset, so no it will not help you.

As I mentioned the page lists your laptop as having DP capability, but over USB-C, you need something that lets you plug in either a full size DP or miniDP to your USB-C port. That's the most straight forward way you could get this to work, basically.

Ok. Thank you. I’ll try to look up connections and see what I can find

Your options are to use (links are just general searches with proper search terms):

A) USB-C to Displayport adapter (like these[www.amazon.com]) with the original Displayport to mini-Displayport cable.

B) or, you can replace the original cable with a USB-C to mini-Displayport cable (like these[www.amazon.com]).

Option B would be marginally better, fewer connectors means often fewer possible issues.

Option B isnt an option for the Cosmos Elite as the cables connected to the converter are not removable.

These are all the ports the Legion 5i have
1. USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 (always on)
2. Headphone / mic combo
3. RJ45 ethernet

4. USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort™)

5. 2x USB-A 3.1 Gen 1
6. HDMI
7. Power input
8. Kensington lock slot
9. LED power indicator
10. Novo button
11. USB-A 3.1 Gen 1

I bought a HUB at Best Buy today that had an input for Mini-DP with a USB-C ----> PC, but it still didnt detect the headset during set up.Not sure if it was because its a HUB or not. http://www.amazon.com HyperDrive USB C Hub, Type C Adapter for MacBook Pro, Laptop USB-C Devices, Ultimate 11-in-1 Surface PC Docking Station w Power Delivery Charging, USBC 5Gbps Data, 4K HDMI, 3xUSB 3.1 Ports, VGA,

I did order a USB-C to Displayport adapter on Amazon, but that wont be here until Saturday, s its just a waiting game I guess.
http://amazon.com USB C to DisplayPort Cable,QGeeM 4K@60HZ Thunderbolt 3 to Displayport Cable

I did get a basic response from VIVE customer support this morning and answered their questions and waiting for a response.
I guess wish me luck

So ya. I’m basically SOL

this is the response I got from VIVE customer support

“ The port required will be at least mini-DP. The USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort™) is not compatible with the headset, therefore, any adapters/converters wouldn't work and the headset will not be recognized. “

What VR’s can be used with HDMI or USB-C output???

Guess I’m returning my Cosmos Elite
BOLL Aug 7, 2020 @ 4:04pm
Sadly most modern headsets are all shipping with DisplayPort to my knowledge, it's the new norm... it would be one of the older headsets that uses HDMI, like the original Rift, Vive or I think WMR headsets. 😱

So 4 days after getting my new Acer Predator Helios 300 and I’m in heaven. This laptop is better than most of the laptops that cost $300-$400 more out the box.

I still want to figure out how to upgrade but baby steps.

Boll and Damsteri..... thank you for your help and answers.
