Room Setup
Every time my PC reboots I have to do the 'Room Setup' in order to play any VR games. Why is that? I just want to set it up once and never touch it again unless I need to recalibrate it.

are you base stations fixed down or can they move, like on tripods etc

You shouldn't have to do the 'Room Setup' every time. It's meant only when your base stations are moved. I suggest you delete/remove SteamVR and reinstall it.

I have the Oculus Rift S. I will try to remove it and install it again. It's just odd, I have to set it up every time my PC turns back on.

The latest SteamVR Beta update should fix this. You can opt into the beta by right clicking SteamVR in the Tools section of your Steam library, then going to the betas tab.

still getting this error. I've a HP Reverb G2, it's August 28 2021 and room setup appears each time I open Steam VR. So, as far as I see this is not fixed

Same problem. Very annoying.

Same problem here. Did you ever figure it out? Mine does it even when I switch to use my quest via Virtual Desktop. Uninstalled SteamVR, windows mixed VR for steam, and Advanced OVR (or whatever that's called) and when I reinstalled it still did it. Will post back if I have any success this weekend.
Coming here to also talk about this as well. It's been happening just a few days ago. The center of the room's origin would suddenly be in one of my base stations. Every time I load steamVR I would have to do my room setup and when I notice the settings (i.e: Having floor only boundaries, color, etc.) it's like it forgot my previous session. When I restart the headset it's back to square one again.
I've not had this issue with Steam VR yet. Issues with the last OS version of my Quest 2 wiping Guardian setup when it's turned off? Yes, that I dealt with. But Steam VR hasn't had any issues.

Mind you, I don't use my Vive Cosmos much due to the rings in the lenses being distractedly visible and hard plastic halo style headbands being uncomfortable for me. Well, those reasons and the original Vive Wands are sucky VR controllers compared to the much lighter and more ergonoic Touch controllers.

I'll need to save up for a set of Knuckle controllers, I think, before I'm willing to use the Vive Cosmos for my standard PCVR headset. Especially with Air Link working well now... for the moment.

I'm currently on Index, I've done clean wipes, reinstalled steam and the like. Removed OVR Advanced Settings, all that good stuff to start over and restarted the computer you name it. This hasn't ever happened to me before until it's just deciding to want to do it. I'm also on Windows 11 too.

I'm wondering now if this is the source of the issue. I haven't tried using my Vive Cosmos since updating to Win 11. So, maybe? It works fine with my Quest 2. But then again the Quest 2 doesn't need me to set up the room via Steam VR.

Yeah I'm feeling like each update for this is causing some sort of problem. Also I wouldn't resurrect a 3 year old post if there wasn't a serious issue. I mean how does something that I have over 11,000 hours in Steam VR all of a sudden happen now haha
Because an update broke something somewhere. Eh, it happens. You realize how many times Air Link on my Quest 2 has been broken, fixed, then broken again by updates?

Oh I couldn't imagine. It just is super annoying that I have to keep doing room setup and put my settings back to what it used to be just to play VR games until something is found on it.

I fully agree. For a while I never actually turned off my Quest 2 because it kept erasing my guardian play space when I did. Eventually that bug got fixed, but it was still super annoying to have to set up a play space before I could get in a work out, join some friends in Horizon Worlds to goof off, or do anything else in VR.
