Steam VR Home GPU usage 90 - 100% causing issues
Steam Media Player does the same thing. These features show promise but if I cannot use them I will be forced to bypass them which is inconvenient. I would rather use the native vr player than having to purchase software to bypass Steam VR issues when entering the Home page....perhaps that's the point....to sell apps? I have done searches and this is a long standing issue that has yet to be fixed. Perhaps they don't know what to do? I am running a gtx 1080 card with i7 processor. Should be enough to make Steam Home work like the other programs that I have to PAY for. lol

All Valve VR apps use adaptive graphics (changing supersampling and MSAA, utilizing the maximum resources for maximum quality)

Have you changed the home level?
How much super sampling?

That's the thing that I cannot understand. Supersampling. Whenever I use Virtual Desktop, supersampling makes a huge difference.....I can put the slider on 1.6 and get good audio and video. My gpu is stable. If I use that setting in Steam VR with the Home Background or if I use the Steam Media Player my computer crashes with the slider at 1.6. To use the Steam Media Player I put the slider on default but the quality is not near as good as Virtual Desktop, I get stuttering in the audio, and my gpu still runs at 70 percent. Just trying to figure how to get the same quality from the Steam Media Player as I do with the Virtual Desktop because I like the interface. I also like the Environment in the Hone VR but it taxes my GPU.

Mine says 11 (very high). Running i7-4470 with gtx 1080 gpu.

Steam VR home is just badly made. I have i7-8700K and GTX 1080 and the VR home is the most demanding VR app there I have tested. It will utilize all GPU power, causing GPU temps go to +90°C and GPU clocks will drop... and my computer become more louder than my vacuum cleaner. All VR-games work well, without any problems, but exiting the game and entering the VR Home is problematic and causes overheating...

Is it still beta? I remember that it was introduced as beta, but can't remember if it's still in beta.

Amen to that. Glad to hear that I am not the only one. Entertained the idea of spending more money to upgrade my pc. Steam VR is just bad. I wonder why they allow this on the opening page, it only discourages those trying to figure things out for the first time.

Uhm, please stop mixing up SteamVR with SteamVR Home.

The GPU load on SteamVR Home depends on the graphics card you are using and it depends on the level you have loaded. If you load performance intense levels it will require more juice. You can also change the default level.
But all this doesn't matter on the games you play. The moment you load a game, SteamVR will free the hardware ressources.

And SteamVR Home is actually amazing. Imo it requires a lot more content.

I'm working on getting a more powerful system but I am using i7 and a 1080 gtx. I have learned that when using another app to disable home because the moment it defaults to home.....crash. Other apps look good with the slider on 2 and work well. Yours however takes a ton of resources. Others have complained as well.....some with ufo settings on their pc. The VR home page looks good and holds promise, the only problem being that other apps are more efficient with resources in the gpu .
