base station problem
I have been having problems with one of my base station and was following this guide on how to fix it:

[ Step 1: With the base station un-powered, connect your station through Micro-B USB Cable to your PC
Step 2: Hold down the mode button and plug in the power cable to the station
Step 3: Once your PC has detected the station as a USB Mass Storage Device you can release the mode button
Step 4: The station should be called "CRP_DISABLED" and contain one file "firmware.bin", delete that file
Step 5: Copy over the file "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin" onto the drive
Step 6: Once the file has copied over, pull out the power lead
Step 7: Wait a few seconds and plug in the power again (DO NOT hold down the mode button this time)
Step 8: Within a few seconds the base station should rapidly flash green or red. If it's green please skip to step 10.
Step 9: Unplug the power cable again
Step 10: Repeat steps 1 thru 7 but now instead copy the "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12" file instead
Step 11: The base station should now be working again. ]

however, during step 8 after waiting an hour for the base station to start flashing either green or red, the base station remained inactive.

any clues on what I should do?

OH|HELLO Apr 14, 2020 @ 5:47pm
I had the same issue - putting the initial file back in has now caused the base station to show a solid blue light and is detected by steam vr (only when scanning for base stations), but it does not track.

I submitted a Support ticket and fully expect to have to send it back for repairs.

Do you have a 1.0 or 2.0 lighthouse?

2.0
There is no mode button (step 2) in 2.0 base stations, your guide is for 1.0 base stations. Also, that guide predates the first 2.0 base stations (Vive Pro) based on quick Google search that show the guide is posted in different forums well before (+1 year) the Vive Pro is released.

Using version 1.0 base station firmware on 2.0 base station will not work and might even be harmful.

thanks very much for the info, I had presumed that the mode button was the accessed by inserting a pin into the small hole above the power lead, pictured here:

There is actual physical button to switch between three syncing modes in version 1.0 base stations based on amount of base stations (one or two) and syncing method (optical or cable). New 2.0 base stations has sync signal embedded to the laser signal so they don't have different modes anymore, all base stations work independently.

I assume that the button under the hole in 2.0 base stations is for factory reset, but I'm not sure as I haven't seen any documentation about it. Those kind of buttons are usually for purposes that are not designed for end users. Version 2.0 base stations are used mainly by Vive Pro (since April 2018) and Valve Index (since June 2019), so older guides are most likely for version 1.0. You can assume that all guides/tips for base stations without the version number are for version 1.0, but basic tips work for both (like avoiding reflective surfaces).

What kind of problems you have with your base station? Is it still alive?

on closer inspection there is a green flashing light inside of it, which was originally red. this confirms that it is still alive, although I'm not sure what I've done with it.
here is a picture of both base stations I have, the one that isn't working is on the left:

Are you talking about the front led? I haven't seen front led flashing green. Flashing red would be a hardware failure and flashing blue would indicate that the base stations is not stable or is encountering vibrations.

You might have done factory reset is you pushed that button in the hole with a pin. Does your system recognize that base station, does it appear in SteamVR when it can see the HMD?

I have pressed the factory reset button with a pin, it does not appear in SteamVR, and the green flashing light is inside the base station not on the front led

the red flashing light was originally on the front led, but is no longer present

Well, I haven't had any problems with my 2.0 base stations (from Vive Pro), but flashing red led would mean RMA for most cases what I have read here. Better to contact the seller if it reappears.
