what is theater mode

saw a post on some one with theater mode problems, so i have to ask, what is theater mode? is it for index or just oculus?

For all systems I think. Certainly for my Vive. Just makes watching movies give you the feel being at a cinema or have a big projector screen. Can be used for playing games too. Vorpx the software that lets you play non-vr games in VR has this option too in case you want to play them that way. Change the size of the screen and how close to your eyes.Not everybody's cup of tea, but more options are always good.

Theater mode is provided by SteamVR. It's a method to play your pancake games in a virtual theater.
If your headset is on and you try to launch a pancake game, it will automatically assume that you want to play the game in VR in a theater with a large screen.
Is it practical? That's another question and that can only be answered by the particular user.
You'll see references to it periodically because some games are pancake by design and have added VR support after the release. These games don't tell SteamVR that they are a VR game until after it's too late and SteamVR has already put them in theater mode. So we disable that feature for those games and SteamVR picks up on the VR part when the game loading gets to that point. EurotruckSim2 is an example.

ok, yeah. i usually keep steamVR open in the background. when i go to play fallout 76, i have to turn VR off then on because it wants to launch in VR mode (did not think that would work since fo76 is not VR) but i use my index as my mic.

i cant d find it anywhere.... trying to play dirt rally, and now is a total mess WMR user here
