Turn off Motion smoothing globally
Is there an option for this anywhere?

I can only see it in the per application settings, but i see no difference between "enable, disable, force on or global" when playing games.

Steam VR intermittently reprojects without reason e.g. my frame times are well under what they need to be and the frametime graph is not showing any issues, but reprojection still occurs.

So i would like to see if turning off motion smoothing entirely makes a difference.

It should be right there on your SteamVR general settings:

If you are using a third party headset, the reprojection is handled by the headset manufacturers software instead of SteamVR.

I'm using oculus quest via virtual desktop. So i'm guessing I should be opening games via the oculus app first and then letting it load through steam VR?

OP did you figure it out? I want to disable it too - for some reason recently I am seeing a wobble of all menu options in game and the lines in steamvr wobble also...

IIRC, the Quest over Virtual Desktop didn't even have any kind of motion smoothing support when this was posted. They apparently implemented their own version of ASW using the headset hardware now, so I'd look in the VD settings.

if you are using virtual desktop, go to your streaming settings menu through your headset, and turn Synchronous Spacewarp (SSW) to Disabled.. saved me so much headache
